I made hotel reservations by phone with Michael, a very nice man who described a room with a queen size bed, a full size sofabed and a dining area, thanks once again Dennis for a great deal right near a train station, great location and nice amenities once again!  I'll room again with Mark (aztecan) which is great fun, I don't know how he does it.

Booked travel online with Amtrak on the Northeast Regional which is about one third the price of Acela...98.00 round trip plus 8.00 travel insurance, total 106.00.

Thur, 7/26-Depart NY Penn station 10:35 am, arrive Union station in DC at 2:00 pm.

Tues, 7/31-Depart DC 5:05 pm, arrive NYC at 8:39 pm.

See you in five months and if anyone comes to visit New York let me know as always.

Jody :) :) :) :) :)

OK, I'm all set.

I will be arriving at Union Station at 12:40 p.m. July 26 on the Amtrak Capitol Limited. I only change trains once - in Chicago.   8)

I will leave Albuquerque on July 24 on board the Southwest Chief.

I leave July 31 at 4:05 p.m., again on the Capitol Limited, from Union Station.

I will arrive back in Albuquerque at 3:55 p.m. Aug. 2.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone, and sharing digs with Jody, who is a great roomie.

I coughed up the frequent flyer miles for a flight.   Both Reagan National and Dulles airports were the same cost, so I chose National.  Here is when I will be arriving and departing:

Buckmark/Henry Arrive Thu 7/26 12:10PM American 836 Depart Tue 7/31 1:55 PM American 819

For some reason I can't find the edit button!

JetBlue has changed the numbers of my arriving and departing flights. Everything else remains the same. I will now be arriving on #0687 and departing on #0686.

If anyone knows what happened to the edit feature, please tell me!

I asked this question once before on another thread and it was explained that one can only modify a thread for a certain amount of time.  Not sure how long though.

Deal!  Since we've yet to meet each other here in Texas, it's only fitting that we should meet for the first time in another state (or district).

I'm just glad to see that no one is flying into Dulles. Complete waste of time, and the money you might save, you would pay for in taxi service to Arlington. That being said, I live in Arlington, within earshot of National's runway...so, if anyone does end up flying into Dulles and needs a ride, let me know. I would be happy to drive out to pick you up. Otherwise, plan to spend $30 each way to get to the city. In fact, if you're flying into national and need a ride, I would be happy to oblige. The Metro is very convenient though. If you decide to Metro to Rosslyn, make sure that you get on the blue line, bound for Largo.

Crap. I just realized the dates. I'm going to be out of town that weekend. Sorry, I can't offer any rides, but I would certainly be willing to help you all with planning, if you need me. I've lived in the DC metro area for eight years now, so I'm pretty versed with anything you might want to know. Just let me know how I can help.

Well crap!  I'm pretty much transit impaired, to say the least.   ::)

So I was thinking of taking you up on your offer.  But that's o.k.  I'm sure I'll make it to the hotel, though I will probably opt for a taxi.  LOL

Aww, sorry RAB! I can help you figure out how to get to Rosslyn though. Are you flying into National or Dulles?

You're going to miss a really good time, with some wonderful people attending AMG.

I'm coming in on Wed and arriving at National.  (I think   :))

No sweat then. If you are flying into National (DCA) then you can take the metro (no need to change trains) all the way to Rosslyn, and the station is right next to the hotel. You'll just want to make sure to take the blue line train towards Largo, and ride it to the Rosslyn station. You just have to be sure that you get on the blue line train, and not the yellow line train, because they use the same platform. Once you board the train, Rosslyn will be the fifth stop. See how easy that was?  ;D

Sacrilege!  There's also vermouth and bitters in a Manhattan, as well as a cherry.  Yes, in Seattle, Von's did a very nice job with their Manhattans.  I could use one right now, and it's on 10:30 AM.   :o

You all will recall I never even made it out of the hotel that infamous Saturday night after way too many Manhattans.  A truly wonderful cocktail!  They were exquisite on the cruise last week.

Wish I would have stayed behind too after my first, second and third manhattan.  Probably how I ended up at some redneck bar in ghettoville.    :o  I still think mine were straight whiskey.

Who, Moi?  ;)

Yes, I do remember running/stumbling/staggering down that hill. I had fun that night.

But I wasn't drinking manhattans. Mine was scotch on the rocks, or with a splash of water. I have trouble remembering. It was probably the laverdar martini that started the afternoon.  :o

Did I mention that I haven't booked a flight yet as I've waited to see if anyone was driving through my neck of the country? ;D

If you can drive or have someone drive you to either Cincinnati (Cardinal line) or Cleveland (Capitol Limited) you can take Amtrak, though I'll assume you looked into that.

I did check and Amtrak is more expensive than flying.  Plus, being in SE Ohio, I'd have to back track a few hours to get to either of those 2 cities and might as well drive to DC.

The price of a flight isn't an issue, it's just all the checked luggage and hassle of lugging it around.

Were you checking on coach or a sleeper? Coach is usually pretty reasonable. Sleepers can put you in the poor house.
