Unprotected Insertive Oral with Sex Worker
« on: July 14, 2006, 07:43:00 pm »
I am male and received unprotected oral from a sex worker.  I did not notice any blood or sores on her, but these weren't optimal conditions for observation.  I really regret this lapse in judgment and am absolutely freaking out.

I am comforted by what I've read on this site and terrified by what I've read elsewhere.  The CDC lists insertive oral as a risk, and their hotline confirmed this.  Wikipedia's entry on AIDS references a 1998 study that HIV is transferrable both insertive and receptive.  (Rothenberg, R. B., Scarlett, M., del Rio, C., Reznik, D. and O'Daniels, C. (1998). "Oral transmission of HIV". AIDS 12 (16): 2095-2105. )  (I know Wikipedia is not first tier peer reviewed by any stretch.)

I'm worried because of contradictory online materials regarding:
1)Whether it is a risk at all
2)Whether it is only a risk if the penis has open sores/cuts, or whether it is also a risk if blood comes in contact with the urethra

Should I get tested, and should I be freaking?  I plan to do the former and am already doing the latter.

Thanks.

foo,

You didn't have a risk. Not one person has ever become infected with hiv through getting a blowjob and you aren't going to be the first.

It doesn't matter that you got the blowjob from a sex worker because it's not who you do, it's how you do it. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

While you don't need to test over this one blowjob, if you're sexually active, you should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

As long as you've always used condoms for intercourse, you can expect negative hiv results.

Foobar??? That should be f-u-b-a-r as in "f*cked up beyond all recognition".  At least that's what I think you were going for.

Sorry, slow night, and I couldn't help myself.

No risk of hiv infection.

Foo, if you scour the net enough you can find answers which will feed every fear your mind can come up with. As for what you got from the CDC, unfortunately it often depends on which operator you speak to as to what kind of answer you will get.

What I can tell you without any reservation is there has NEVER been a documented case of HIV transmission via getting a blowjob and I definitely do not expect you to make history by becoming the first.

Countless times we see people here who are worried about this and there's never been one who ever tested positive among those who felt they needed to test for peace of mind. If you read the lesson on transmission which is linked in the opening thread of this section the subject is covered thoroughly. In several longterm studies of sero-dystonic couples in which oral sex was very common, there's never been a case of transmission in that manner.

Often because someone has been with a sex worker and/or has wife or other partner those elements seem to stir up a great deal of guilt and anxiety about oral, none of which has any basis in HIV science of course.

All I can say is there is no need for testing nor for further concern on your part about this incident. And stop surfing the net about it.It's bad for your health. No kidding.

Cheers,

Gave handjob - two cuts on hand - risk?
« Reply #4 on: August 25, 2012, 08:09:24 am »
I thought I was keeping my activity so safe, but now I'm concerned.

I met another guy online and ended up giving him a handjob.  But afterwards I noticed I had two cuts on my hand.  Now I'm worried that I could have had a risk of infection.  Did I?  Do I need testing?  This was yesterday---if I had a risk should I see a clinic to get that emergency preventative treatment?

Thanks for you time.

I've merged your threads here. As stated in the opening thread of this section, members are supposed to keep all entries in the same thread. Thanks for your cooperation in the future.

You are worrying needlessly about this latest incident. HIV is a fragile virus. Sexually it is only confirmed to be passed through unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. That's it. Use condoms properly everytime for those activties and you will be well protected. There is no need for further concern about this latest incident nor any need for testing.
