Hello Jim,

9 weeks before (I am currently in 10th week after exposure), I had given oral sex to a guy. It was for long duration, with few breaks, pre-cum was present but he didn't ejaculate in my mouth.

I have been living in lot of stress since then. Due to that, I had HIV (blood drawn from vein) test done on 19th day of exposure, which came as negative. I know it was too soon for conclusive result. In 6th week, I got sore with white head in my left cheek, which healed within week. In 8th week, I got burning tongue tip sensation and the sore on tip of tongue, few days of diarrhea, which also resolved after few days.

I know you don't discuss symptoms, but what shot up my anxiety is that from past week I have severe neck pain, burning arm pits, I got into checking my lymph nodes but didn't find any swollen node, some mornings I wake up with night sweats and also have headaches. I thought this might be due to severe stress I am going through or my sleeping pattern. But, today I found red rash behind my neck (I had seen that in 5th week after my hair cutting, which I attributed it to and had forgotten about it), which is now driving me crazy. As, I now believe it could be ARS which I am going through.


I’m feeling completely overwhelmed and drained by all of this. I just don’t know how to summon the strength to go through with the HIV test. I have read almost all posts in this forum regarding oral sex. But, I feel due to my bad mouth health and may be that guy had high viral load, I might have caught HIV. I am already half dead inside, don't even remember now, when was last time, I had even smiled.

EDIT:- I have cavities in my wisdom tooth. Also, has infection in one of the tooth. My gums don't bleed, but I do have sore in my right cheek due to sharp wisdom tooth which is broken and is also infected tooth. I didn't thought about it then. As, I wasn't aware that oral sex is also risky. I hope, I could go back to that time and have never put myself into this situation.

I know, you mention it as minute risk which doesn't require even testing. But given to my symptoms and conditions mentioned in my post, I think it doesn't apply in my case (I hope it does). Trust me, I've tried over and over not to worry about it, but it hasn't worked. And these symptoms haven't helped in that.

I’ve been battling with my thoughts constantly, scrolling through countless posts in this forum, trying to find some reassurance, but nothing seems to help. That’s why I felt the need to create my own post. Perhaps I’m seeking some reassurance, as I have no one to share these worries with. Most of your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV regardless of your HIV status and cavities, viral load etc, etc make no difference, we already presume the worst-case scenario when providing our answers.

So you already know the answer but ill repeat it, giving a blowjob, the mouth generally lacks a route for HIV to infect, you don't have gaping open holes in your head and even if you did there are barriers such as saliva that neutralizes HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect human cells etc, giving a blowjob is such a minute HIV risk that it doesn't warrant HIV concern or testing outside of routine.

In short; it's not an HIV risk, so unless you have had other risks, move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or easier-acquired correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.
