Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Hey - I have a query on similar lines, I have read this thread n depth

Condom broke while with CSW and will assume infection passed. Immediately started PEP 28 day course on same day itself ( started 4 days ago)

I realize the viral load is extremely low if any and not enough to transmit to significant other ( SO).

Hypothetically please tell me if I understand correct. I’m using extreme examples.  I may have maybe 3 molecules of viral hiv in me - each with its own small chance to transmit - same like you need millions of sperm to fertilize one .

Now these 3 molecules are not being given the chance to multiply due to PEP, however can one of these 3 transmit to SO during unprotected sex and create mayhem ?

In other words the risk for SO is no zero at this point

Correct ?

If your partner wants an HIV risk assessment they should talk to me, ill be happy to talk to them but I can't give you their risk assessment.

You read the other thread and have the answer.

Now, regarding your HIV risks. Let's start with the broken condom during intercourse as the insertive partner with a sex worker, its a relatively low HIV risk but still a risk and you started PEP.

I am a bit surprised they gave you PEP, anyhow make sure to test six weeks after finishing PEP with a blood draw (lab) HIV antibody test. A non-reactive result at that time would rarely change, and retesting at three months is generally unnecessary.

Also, get an STI screening, other STIs are more common and far easier to transmit.

If you engage in condomless sex with your partner, you are obviously at risk of acquiring HIV. In relationships, condomless sex is often based on trust or past test results; however, this does not prevent HIV, so if condomless sex does occur, you should consider testing more frequently & PrEP.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.
