Help me 😭, I need to know if I have been infected
« on: June 27, 2024, 02:22:48 am »
I had sex with a girl and I used a condom but I had a boil just at the base of my penis, the condom did not cover the boil because it was located at the base, the condom did not break after the sex as I inspected it by filling it with water before discarding it , I discovered that the boil had burst open possible during the intercourse and small blood came out, I freaked out and asked her of her HIV status and she said she was positive but haven't been on medication because she found out about 6 months ago, please help me, since my condom did not break and the boil probably burst during the intercourse that led to small amount of blood coming out, will I be infected with HIV? Is the burst boil a route of HIV infection? Please help me.

The boil isn't an HIV concern and as for the intercourse HIV can't be transmitted through an intact latex, polyisoprene or polyurethane condom. Unless a condom obviously fails during intercourse, there is no reason to be stressing about HIV or testing for HIV outside the standard yearly HIV screening. In other words, you had no HIV risk.

So stop filling condoms with water afterwards, it's unnecessary and unhealthy. They are not designed to be used that way, it could damage the condom, mistakenly leading you to think the condom was damaged during sex when you caused the damage after the intercourse by trying to "test" it with water. In short, testing the condom yourself is not a reliable way to tell you anything.

Move on with your life!

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

I accidentally pricked my self with a solid sewing needle on the table , I don't know how long the needle has been there, can I contract HIV from this scenario?

You did not have a risk for HIV.

HIV is transmitted through unprotected anal/vaginal sex or by sharing injection needles. Neither of those happened in your situation.

Have a good day,
Michael

Reducing Your HIV risks:
With no exceptions, use condoms correctly and consistently for anal or vaginal intercourse
Talk to a healthcare provider about PrEP as another layer of protection

Get tested yearly for HIV and other STIs.
If you don’t use condoms and/or PrEP, test more frequently

Some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other more easily acquired STIs. It is possible to show no signs or symptoms from an STI so testing is the only way to know.

Get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

What’s the ONLY way to know if you’ve been infected by HIV or an STI?
Get tested.
