C0-Pay Question
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:03:41 pm »
I read so much about high cost co-pays, and co-pay cost increasing, just wondering what everyone here is paying (co-pay) for their HIV meds.

Newbernswiss-
I am on Atripla and pay nothing, at the beginning of the year, it is a couple of bucks for a few months.
My SO is also on Atripla and he pays $3.00.

Hello,

Over a month ago I started taking Atripla and my co-pay is $50.00 per month, but I believe I will do the mail order thing which will save me a total of $25.00.  Through mail order I can get a 3 months supply for $125.00.

I read so much about high cost co-pays, and co-pay cost increasing, just wondering what everyone here is paying (co-pay) for their HIV meds.

At least you are covered.  I am in Washington State and found out that Community CCRx is only covering one drug, but I am on seven of them.  Also, I noticed that Medicare.gov indicates that there are no 5 star Medicare Part D providers that service King County Washington.

I am not taking my meds for almost 3 years now and my CD4 has dropped from 600 to 300 and my undectable viral load went to 50,000 then dropped and is rising each time i have my blood work,
My copays for each of the 3 meds I should be taking are $100 each so that is $300 just for those meds not including Lotronex, Ambien, acylovir, loperamide, testosterone injectable, calcium supplement, vitamins, and other pills I take to combat side effects. All total its around $500 a month that I just do not have since I am paying back dental school loans of over $700 per month for now ( should be paying $1400). I make too much money to qualify for assistance but not enough to pay for everything. I live a very frugal life and cannot think of a thing to give up so I can afford my medications. Any suggestions? i have been to 3 ASO and they were no help at all.

Then, your Imcome level must be so HIGH, that they cannot help you, even tho you say you live a very frugal life, so sounds like half of your income go's to student loans, which leaves NO room to even pay for  your much needed HIV Meds , I'm just $500 to $600 shy of NOT getting any help at all so, ???  I feel for you,.........I do hope that the NewYear 2009 brings some sorta solution to this mess your in.............if you get very SICK and have to go on disability, then your student loans will be forgiven, that's what happened to my otherhalf 15 yrs. ago, his BSRN Nursing school loans were forgiven  ;D

I'm on Medicare Part D, and at least in the state where I live (Pennsylvania) I really pay nothing for the multitude of medications I take.  I get nine scripts filled monthly.  No co-pay, and no monthly premium.

However, my SSDI is too high to qualify for other programs like housing assistance so I'm paying "real" costs for all other living expenses, etc.  I also go to a public AIDS clinic -- actually it's more of a local place that runs off some kind of partial endowment, and since I'm on Medicare they get paid that way though they never charge me any extra.  I was a bit hesitant to go to a public place years ago, but I must say that the quality of care at least at this place is fully equal, and at time even exceeds, the care I received during my first decade of treatment from private doctors.

The clinic also provides an array of services that goes as far as an AIDS Library as well as case management, many clinical trials, treatment education/advocacy, youth health/empowerment etc., though all of these non-medical programs have been experiencing many cut backs in funding from the city of Philadelphia, unsurprisingly.
