Hillary "Gay rights are human rights"

Well, at least it didn't take Chelsea to fall in love with a woman to get her to finally get on the humanity bandwagon.
Better late than never (aka. Boehner) who recently stated that he could not conceive of ever supporting gay marriage.

John Boehner's sun is probably a bottom and John is just to cheap to pay for the wedding as the brides family traditionally does .

But Hillary is bisexsicle.  No need for a lesbian daughter.  Right?  Did I miss something?

What does Dickey having a Lesbo daughter have to do with Hillary not coming out supporting Gay Marriage sooner?

I was wondering what took so long.  I know she always said as Secretary of State, she was not suppose to weigh into political issues.  But, I've always seen this as a civil rights issue, and not a political one.

ABC News released a new poll today.  It shows a dramatic increase in support from 2003.  58% now support marriage equality, up from 37% in 2003.  Two-thirds of Americans believe this should be decided at the federal level, and not the state.  The Supreme Court takes up this issue next week.  I continue to hope they put this issue to rest, and go broad and make marriage equality the law of the land.  Their decision in June could make for a great Pride month, or a bad one.

I just noticed some of the data I read earlier today is different from the link.  I read support was at 37% in 2003, in the earlier article I read about the study.  The link uses 32% support from 2004.  Maybe there was a drop in 2004?

While I too would have wished her statement was made earlier I was quite pleased with her announcement today.

It seemed to me that she actually went beyond just the issue of "gay marriage" per se and by including gay rights as human rights was actually pushing for inclusion of the treatment of gays in the fourteenth amendment.

There are many laws that discriminate against gay people in the US.  Gay marriage is just one of them.  You can be fired for being gay in a number of states, housing, marriage, taxes, immigration..the list is quite long.  By including gay people in the fourteenth amendment states and the fed government (by way of the fifth) would be required to treat gay people the same with respect to the law.  All discrimination against gay people by the government would cease.

While she didn't specifically mention it, it had that tone..IMHO

Her statement was actually much more progressive than the presidents had ever been.

Sorry, maybe my first post was a little wishy washy.
The point I was trying to make was that unlike Cheney and Portman, Hillary wasn't finally coming on board due to the discovery of a gay family member.
Yes, she was late to the party.
It's just a bit more disappointing when takes a family member coming out for some politicians to have a epiphany.

My guess is that she's positioning herself for announcing a 2016 run for president.

Politics does make strange "Bed-Fellows."  Republicans supporting Gay Marriage?!  Holy Wow!!!  Besides, Hillary Knows what time it is.  She is not the trend setter, but she follows the trends when it is safe to do so.

Good article written by Robert Barnes (published March 17, 2013) of The Washington Post on marriage equality using marital statuses of Supreme Court Justices (asked to review DOMA) as one comparative analysis:

oh yes, 2016 is around the corner already in politics.  I know she is working on that, I sure hope she does.  I'd love to see her as Madame(sp?) President.  So far she is the top of the list according to current polls with Chris Christie right behind her on the pube side.
