Every year  in France and since 1994, around the month of March all the television channels, radio stations and the media in general discuss, inform and especially raises a lot of money in the fight against AIDS.
We owe this movement to several famous  people that  it would be impossible to mention besides the founder, Daniel Defert (AIDES),  but today two of them stand out in the fight:  La merveilleuse "Line Renaud"  and Pierre Bergé (Saint Laurent).  Line also helps Elizabeth Taylor and Sharon Stone with AmFar, in NYC.  And so does Pierre Bergé.
Now, most of the funds collected remain in France, of course, but the Sidaction helps a lot of people throughout the world as well:

..."Sidaction is an important stakeholder in many developing countries throughout the world. Our support initially targets community based organizations involved in the fight against AIDS and aims at reinforcing the durability of their actions by: strengthening the infrastructure of health centers, taking care of patients, and ensuring their access to treatment. Priority is given to the direct assistance of patients through pharmacy programs, support of women and children, including orphans, etc. The priority targets are the poorest populations, which are often the most vulnerable and the most difficult to reach. In the efforts to widen the access to treatment in the most affected regions, Sidaction's International Programs Department has set up a training unit dealing with the critical issue of human resources.

Funding and support for the International Programs department of Sidaction is received from the French ministry of Foreign Affairs, the City Hall of Paris, MAC Fund, UNAIDS, and the World Health Organization.

Sidaction is the most important French AIDS non-governmental organization in terms of providing a budget for and building partnerships.

In 2005, Sidaction brought support to 98 programs established by 53 different associations, in 27 countries worldwide"

So, tonight it was as usual very impressive and touching to see all these singers, actors, celebrities and just everyday-kind-of-people working side by side for this cause!

The word comes from the Greek words φως phos ("light"), and γραφίς graphis ("stylus", "paintbrush") or γραφή graphê, together meaning "drawing with light" or "representation by means of lines".
