An Early Frost - the movie
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:43:46 am »
Watched this movie last night twice.  I'm sure I've seen it before but couldn't recall the exact details.  This movie so accurately portrays the early days of this virus and I was tearing through the entire movie.

I'd recommend everyone who hasn't seen it to do so.  It was the closest thing I've ever seen that accurately reflects what I so vividly remember.  Everything from the family dynamics, lack of compassion from health care providers to the emotional turmoil of accepting a death sentence and then coming to grips with living what life we had left.

His mother in the movie so reminded me of my own.  She was the last person I expected to be my rock and I think I'll have a discussion with her when she returns home from whatever state she's currently visiting.  It'll be more of an apology as I've never felt close to her and realize I owe her a tremendous debt.

When she asked the doctor if her son was going to die and he said "yes", she refused to accept it.  When asked what she could do, he told her simply to let her son believe in the HOPE that he would survive, because at that point, it was the only tool left.

I also so vividly remember that "Caution: Infectious Disease" sign on my door.  It further destroyed what dignity we tried to maintain.  That was the norm in the 80's. In 2009, when I was again admitted to the hospital, they put me in the hospice unit with a very similar sign but I had the indignation to throw a fit and my doctor was just as outraged.

I believe that this movie is with Glenn Close.  It's a decent short movie.
