Gawd, I love Bill Maher
« on: August 23, 2007, 12:59:49 pm »
As my financial collapse in 2004 means I no longer have access to HBO, the internet is the only way I can hear him and his razor-sharp, biting, caustic and always spot-on insight:

I love him too.  I even got my parents watching him and my dad calls me the other day and asked if Bill and I went to the same school of thought...lol

I love Bill Maher but the forced laughs in the background had make me stop the video after a minute. Do people really laugh that way?

I also am a huge fan.  Not only does he fight for civil rights, he also is (in my opinion) very politically correct in what he says about the current government.

For those who either don't have HBO or care to revisit his show Real Time, here's the website.

Check out the section on New Rules and the full transcripts of past shows. They're brilliant.

I caught the last half of last nights broadcast.......with Tim Robinson (Shawshank Redemption). Bill did a great job in closing the show with a nice satire on China imports-the recent recalls--and slammed WalMart for the crap they sell................................. litterally all the "junk" WalMart sells is from China.
 :o
Mike

Any "rehearsed" or "forced laughter" in his programs pales against the truth he delivers to his audience.....and yes, some idiots laugh like that so they'll get noticed on the taped programs.  ::) He does have an audience and certainly doesn't control the spontaneity of the individuals.

When they were discussing the reasons for going to war in Iraq on this week's show and Robbins was making the point that if you have been wrong about EVERYTHING (Cheney, Bush, Bill Kristol, etc) you don't get to call yourself an expert, the highlight for me was when that woman from NPR turned to Tim Robbins and asked him if he had considered the idea that the Bush administration didn't intentionally mislead the public and were just mistaken, Robbins calmly replied, "That's an awful lot of fuck-up".

Stuff like that is why I love watching Real Time.  It's so nice to just see people speak their unadorned opinions without having their microphone cut.   And Tim Robbins is right on that point.  It strains all credulity beyond the breaking point to believe that the Bush administration and it's cheerleaders could be wrong about everything with regards to Iraq without some intentional deception designed to win support for and continue support for this ridiculous mess they've gotten us into in Iraq.

Don't have HBO. Hope to upgrade my computer to watch video someday. However, was lucky to see him live a couple years ago. First time I ever got tickets so early they were actually good, down front seats. He is exceptional and provocative in every way possible.
