Title: blood results of patent 7614..
Post by: bryan21 on July 20, 2010, 12:56:23 am
well i went to the doctors today to get the results of my blood lads. that were taken back on may 20th
and everything went well i guess? i was stressed out and very nervous lol but lucky i had to sisters and an x b/f that went with me.they were telling me to calm down..lol
[my cd4 count was 513/and my viral load was 204]
which is really good from what the doctor was saying she said she was surprise my viral load was so low.
she said i may have "wempie" strain which would be the shit!!
but she also told me to "not get my hopes up" because the blood was taken so long ago she had to take more blood to compare the two to see where i am at.
so i go back again next mth. to get blood results to see if the numbers are still the same (around about i guess).
i was sooo shocked to hear my viral load was soo low but i hope it stays that low she said i may not need meds and that would be a god send..
but im sure that wont be the facts...

But both of your numbers are NOT low.

Your CD4 count is high, because it can be considered a normal count.
Your viral load is low.

Both of those measurements are what you would want.  Congrats!

Now, if your CD4 count was low and your viral load was high, that's what you DON'T want.

Bryan, there's nothing that is proven to boost CD4 cells. All you need to do is eat healthy, exercise and get enough rest.

Your numbers really are fantastic and it is true that you might be able to go for some time without meds.

Well....... maybe....

Correct.

All you need to do is eat healthy, exercise and get enough rest.

This is the one thing you *can* do that will impact your numbers.  Treat your body like it's the only one you have... because it is.  Avoid alchohol, drugs, and "hard living".  Take your meds, see your doc.

Hi Bryan -
I can't remember if you are in the US or not - but if you are, then you are entitled to a copy of any of your medical records.  That said, they are allowed to charge a nominal fee for copying.  The other thing is that they want give you your labs until the doctor has signed off on them (that he/she has reviewed them).  My docs have never charged me a fee and have always provided mine to me.

I would nicely let your doctor know directly that you would like to have a copy of all of your lab work as you want to track it and keep it for reference.  If the doc doesn't do it this is what I would do, in this order, a)I would first ask why he/she is refusing; 2) I would remind him/her that I have a right to the record(s); 3) after receiving my record (if I had to take it all the way to this point in regards to pushing the issue this far), I would seriously look at getting a more patient-friendly doctor..... --  that would be how I would handle.

If it is a nurse refusing or receptionist, it is probably because they are not authorized to just give you the record, the doctor has to tell them it is okay to do.... so if that is who gave you the "no" answer or only provided limited info, then have your doctor let that party know it is okay to release all the labs to you.

The other part is, there are some docs/nurses who think that we are only interested in the lab paper that has our CD4 and VL on it.  My doc initially only gave me those two pages, because they thought that was all I wanted when I asked for copy of my labs.  I just had to let them know that I want copies of all lab results (CBC, VL, CD4, any special screenings - i.e. syphillis, etc.)

Let us know how it goes!

Phil

Ok - cool --- yeah, Nashville still counts as the US  LOL  ;D
Just talk to your doctor and let him/her know that you want to have a copy of all your labs - its good to have them because if you apply for different types of assistance or have to get care from a doc that doesn't have access to them readily you can always have them on you.... Plus you can track them - I believe the body website has a track your labs feature....

Your doc will/should appreciate you taking an active interest in your care and requesting them.  After a few visits they will pretty much know that you like having them in give you copies automatically - hopefully.

My ID doc is part of a large healthcare system and they just went to Echarts - so I can get my med records, including labs online from now on -- I'm stoked about that.
