Frankenstorm...
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:59:40 pm »
Guess they got tired of using STORM OF THE CENTURY. They could just call it a hurricane that might mix up with a snow storm. But I guess that doesn't sound as important.

Beside, other than the inconvenience of not having public transportation, I shouldn't really see too much effect from the storm...damage-wise, if it comes to that. I'm in a non-evacuation zone being too high up. Plus the park beside my neighborhood is even higher so it blocks winds coming from the west. Last hurricane that came through, didn't even have a breeze in my neighborhood at the top of the storm.

But coming from the Gulf Coast I do have respect for what a hurricane can do, so if they did tell me to book it...I would.

Anyone else in the cone of probability?
Of course it's important. It's an email...

Not us.

The best I can offer is a decade-long drought.

Keep safe!

Philadelphia is smack dab in the path of the storm.
I just saw photos from Ocean City NJ.  High tide, about 3 feet of water in the streeets.
We are hunkered down until its over, which seems to be tomorrow night. Any areas that normally flood.....will.
Kurts doctor even cancelled his appointment for today.

Clean up time...

Not much damage in my neighborhood. Just no subway service and limited bus service. Which would be "fun" since I have to go into work on Wednesday. However, my boss said he'd pay the taxi fare so I ordered a car for in the morning. That said, I still have to get back home in the evening...tomorrow is going to be a long day.

But...at least I have power and the comforts of home. Friend who lives down on Avenue C got to watch the cars parked on the avenue float away. No power, no hot water (basement flooded), no shower (Arrgh!). He may come up to my place if he can get here to spend some time in the tub with warm water.

Not meaning to be to lighthearted about all of this. But coming from the gulf coast I have a respect for hurricanes and the damage they can do. Everyone up here always would go "it'll be nothing" every time one came close. Hopefully they'll think a little differently from now on. And this wasn't even that bad...I can't imagine the amount of damage if this had been like Hurricane Camille. Then they'd really know what a disaster is.

That's about it. Got to hit the hay if I'm going to wake up in time for the car.
Of course it's important. It's an email...
