Hello members,

Please for those who are on Triumeq, can you share with me your experience with this medication, side effects that you encounters, and things somebody who takes the medication need to know?

I really appreciate your responses.

Prince,
Thank you

Having issues?

You should not be having issues beyond settling in, if you have speak to your doctor.
If needed there are other combo's.

Triumeq should be taken two hours before or six hours after taking certain (cation-containing) antacids or laxatives, sucralfate, oral iron supplements, calcium supplements, or buffered medication.

Make sure you check interactions with other medications, if you are on other meds. Your pharmacist can do that for you.

Some people do better taking this med in the AM related to the (tivicay) dolutegravir med in triumeq

I admit I have only been on Triumeq for a very short while now and I also have to admit that I take it at an "odd" time. I take mine with lunch because for some crazy reason, by the time I am ready for bed (around midnight) I am perfectly tired and for the first time in YEARS, I am sleeping better than normal.

The only issue I am dealing with is after I take it, about 30 - 60 minutes later I need about 20 mins of calm because of a loopy feeling. I am on week 3 now, and it started off needing about an hour of calm. My team tells me that it should go away completely.

When they did my blood work the day I started my medication, my VL was 20,146 CD4 was 630. Due to where I go for my treatment, they are a university doing research. They do blood work every 2 weeks for 3 months to show the effective nature of treatment. My second blood work put my VL as UD and my CD4 is 770.

I also find I don't need to worry about food with the medication. I also do not have night terrors or depression or other things that come with other medications. My husband is HIV positive. He was on Atripla for 10+ years and when he finally made a stink over the side effects they moved him to Triumeq. Since then, he is feeling normal and while I don't like the phrase, he says: "Triumeq is a wonder drug". I get why he says it though, his mood is better, his side effects are gone and he feels like he can live normal again.

I hope this helps!

Redneckbossryan,

Many thanks for thoroughly sharing your experience.

I noticed that there is no one rule for all with Triumaq. I guess the good part of it the food thing. Some other medication as sad, the food requirement makes it difficult.

I am on complera and I am discussing with my health care provider my options for a switch.

Thank you once again for your feedback and wishing you all the best.

Light all the way,
Prince

As you see from my signature i have been on Tri since the beginning. I was scared stiff to take it but going on 3 years now its probably one of the easiest ones to take without side effects (from my little knowledge). My only issue is that sometimes i need to take with food or i get a little nauseous.....but that is me with most meds....

When you compare outcomes (both control of the condition AND lack of side-effects) of modern HIV drugs compared to how things were just a few decades ago then I think 'wonder drug' is a valid description!

My ironic issue with this drug is that it is too easy and nondescript. It is grey, and coated. I swallow it easily. Isentress was pink and not coated and I took it with Truvada.  It has happened more than once in pas months that I forget if I take Triumeq. Sometimes just 10 minutes after I think I took it, I say, hey, did I take it? I should get a pill box, in other words.

Mecch,

A pill box is a must. I believe each one of us must have one because over time, human beings do things subconsciously, with habit. For example, locking the door keys and medication as well. The pill box is a reminder call. I think about it in this way because a simple act such as talking to somebody or thinking about something can result in forgetting whether you took your dose or not.

CavyUK,

A wonderful reminder to all our old time positive heros. Without them, we wouldnt be enjoying the modern hiv era.

I have such an urge reading this to just ask GSK on Twitter if they can't dye them pink or a mix of bright colours just to see if they would reply  ;D

Having not been posting here for a few years I am logging back in because of Triumeq.

It's been a total failure for me, as my doc has been encouraging me to switch from a combo of Norvir, Reyataz and Kivexa. I had been stable and with little side effects, other than the occasional frequent toilet visits. Then of course taking one per day seems more sensible than three.

In any case my experienes are as follows: I switched 4 months ago, and sleep disruptions appeared the first month, meaning no matter how tired and late I slept I would get up at 5, 6am and couldn't go back to sleep.

Then came muscle ache, which I thought was caused by working out and lack of sleep. 2, 3 months into it vivid dreams with Restless Leg Syndrome began to appear. I decided to film myself sleeping one recent night and my body was, er, jerking on and off for over hours before I got up. I have a mortal fear when it comes to vivid dreaming and RLS, as I went with a life threatening period on Sustiva many years ago.

It got worse the last 2 weeks, to a point I feel like I am having a permanent jetlag. So after so urgent phone calls I went to see my doctor this afternoon and got him to put me back on the old combo for now.

Sorry to hear that, insomnia is a known one. Those outliers that have the issues it relatively manageable for many, that said its not pleasant or any comfort when you are the one experiencing the issue at a level that can't be managed requiring either a switch or switch back.

Glad you could switch back.

I started taking Triumeq a week ago and the only side effect is the damn nausea. It starts 30 minutes after I take it and lasts about one hour. I feel like I don't feel it so much if I eat a lot before taking the pill (eating just an apple or some cookies doesn't do the trick), but since my schedule is not really regular there's really no point in changing the time I take it... I guess I just have to hold on and hope it gets better.

Oh and I started having wild dreams but I'm not complaining. Today I dreamed I was singing with Selena Gomez in some party (?)

And for the insomniacs, as a person who has had insomnia all my life, I REALLY suggest you start exercising. It doesn't have to be at the gym, go for a 30min run every morning. Since I started exercising I have had no trouble falling asleep and I feel much stronger and healthier.

Thanks dear..  :D

I am glad I am able to take a few days off because the last 2 weeks or so have been rather horrific. My body is aching and I have beem zombified by the lack of proper rest.

I was still experiencing all the worst of the side effects last night - couldn't sleep, annoying vivid dreams and sleep disruption. I probably slept for 5 hours or so last night, and I felt like all of which I was dreaming, again mostly just aimlessly walking around seeing all sort of weird stuff.

What is alarming is that for a few moments after I woke up, I continued to "see" new scenes from the same dream I just had when I just closed my eyes. This sh*t really f**ked me up.

I should probably take a sleeping pill tonight..

Hugs, Shaun

I had great labs on Triumeq until the muscle aches became too much to bear. If you can tolerate it, it is great but if not, you’ll need something else.

I've been on Triumeq for 4 years after switching from Atripla.   Only issues have been insomnia and possible joint/muscle pain, which may or may not be related to the medication.   However, after looking back on my past labs, I've noticed a distinct increase in serum glucose levels after switching to Triumeq, even causing A1C to raise a few notches over the last 2 years.  I have no idea if this is going to be an ongoing progressive effect (leading to pre-diabetes/diabetes) or just a one-time bump due to the NRTI's in Triumeq.  To be on the safe side, I've decided to give Juluca a try to get rid of the NRTI's.  If that doesn't work, hopefully the new dolutegravir/lamivudine combo pill will be on the market (basically Triumeq without the abacavir) so I can at least eliminate the worst NRTI if I have to switch back.
