Help pls.  Am friends w/ an author who has written a memoir on her experiences of acceptance and tolerance within Fire Island's community.  She is sister of a gay man, wife of an Evangelical pastor, author of several books published within religious networks, and has now authored this personal memoir that seeks to bridge the gap of (mis)understanding between her two worlds: Fire Island: How an Evangelical Pastor’s Wife Found Her True Home Among the Dancers, Designers, Dykes, and Drag Queens of the World’s Foremost Gay Wonderland

This is a real life account of her friendships within Fire Island's neighborhoods, and how she was embraced there after the loss of her mother more/better than by her church community. Non-exploitive, non-judgmental, and seeks to honor the real life people in its pages both still with us and that have passed.  My part?  I'm a writer in a very different field (equestrian sports), so I'm out of my network here, but we share a friendship w/ a very cherished pos man that is one of the protagonists of her book.  Would love to see her message of tolerance published while he is alive to witness it, think it has something to offer/educate to other sisters/wives/mothers/girlfriends, and has a clear appeal towards tolerance.  Does anyone know of a publishing house open to reviewing this manuscript please?  Thank you.

Alyson Books has gone out of business, and all the manuscripts they've previously contracted but not yet published are in limbo.

You/she might check out at any good sized bookstore to see what is on the shelves that in anyway fits a category this book would fit into. Look in gay & lesbian, bios, inspirational and any other categories that seem appropriate.

Contact the publishing house(s) that published those books and ask for name and contact information of the editor who handled that book and send them an exploratory e mail inquiry.

Also, look in Literary Market Place LPM under agents and see who handles this kind of subject matter.

Good luck.
