Title: Propolis affect HIV test result?
Post by: Eekoon on January 14, 2013, 11:03:53 am
Please help, I need your advice.

I have had encounter with possible exposure. I have HIV antibody test at 7 weeks mark and came back -ve. But I do consume propolis during the 7 weeks period. Now, after 7.5 weeks, I have a sore throat and a light fever.

Could you experts shade any light about whether propolis will affect the test result in 7 weeks or not? I'm living with tension and scare each day.... I hope you could help...

Eekoon,

No, propolis will NOT affect an hiv antibody test.

What do you think was a "possible exposure"? Unless it was unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you're likely to be worrying for no good reason.

Dear Ann,

I read so many of your posts. You are a wonderful lady. Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

I had a protected sex with a sex worker in China, but I do perform some oral sex (licking the vagina and breast) with an ulcer in my mouth. I do taste some fluids and only after the incident that I realise I may have done something wrong.

I was scared and perform home test with Generation 3 test kit at 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 weeks. I know antibiotics won't affect the test result, but not sure about Propolis because some says that Propolis can some how suppress HIV though not curing. I was afraid Propolis delayed my acute stage and it only come now.

Eekoon,

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection.

You do NOT need further testing. You are conclusively hiv negative.

You do NOT have hiv!

Dear Ann,

Thank you so much. Here I express my gratitude to you and the team ! I will try to forget this and move on. But after doing so many research in these few weeks, I get myself more aware of the disease and the community. I will follow your suggestion, but I will still do the last test, that is, the 3 months test to confirm.

I will take more Vitamin C at the moment to hopefully get rid of the sore throat. Thank you very much.

Best
