Atripla and Alcohol

Hi guys,

I've been taking atripla for a month now and have had no real side effects.. even the tiredness in the morning is pretty much gone.  I have a question for anyone whos taking atripla...

Do you ever drink at night?  I'd like to resume' a social life and go to a club or bar and want to be able to have a few drinks, but what affect will that have on me when i take my medicine?

Are there any best practices you've found when taking atripla and drinking? (i.e. taking it earlier in the evening, and waiting a few hours before drinking, or drinking a bit earlier in the evening and taking the atripla later?

Please help.. I miss being out lol

Harlem -- as long as you drink in moderation, you should have no problem.  I drink a glass of red wine each and every night, and I'm also on meds.

Hey Harlem,

Alcohol potentiates (multiplies) the effects of efavirenz - and vice versa.  Some people take their meds when they have finished drinking for the night.  I am not sure if this has any effect on the hangover.  I do know people who have changed medication because of the limitations on social activities - especially the spontaneous nights out.

I have been on Atripla for 2 months. I have recently started socializing again and I had no problems with taking my pill at 8 to 9 PM and going out later and drinking in moderation.

I have taken Atripla for about 18 months, and sometimes I even wash it down with a cold Coors Light.  It still works fine.
