Title: Finally getting a local ASO
Post by: wolfter on May 18, 2011, 05:09:17 pm
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Seventy percent of Ohio will be served by a new entity combining two of the state's largest organizations for providing services to people with HIV and AIDS.

The Dayton Daily News reports the Dayton-based AIDS Resource Center Ohio and the Columbus AIDS Task Force announced Monday that they will merge as of July 1.

The combined operation will take the AIDS Resource Center name, also called ARC Ohio. It will be headed by Bill Hardy, the longtime director of the Dayton organization. He calls the merger a strategic business decision that will be good in terms of fundraising, public policy and advocacy.

The new ARC Ohio will have offices in Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Lima, Mansfield, Athens, Chillicothe and Newark serving more than 2,500 Ohioans who are HIV-positive.

I guess they finally discovered that the rural areas of Ohio need help with HIV services.  Columbus is the closest ASO for many and it's an hour away from me.  There are people in SE Ohio who have to travel even further so the Newark location will be a great asset.
