I need some help
« on: August 20, 2017, 10:55:58 pm »
Hi all,

I'm happy to say I've been put on bactrim, zithromax and most importantly, genvoya.  All this 11 days after diagnosis.

Its been a whirlwind of an experience, but I'm ready to face it head on.

I do have a couple questions though..

Since my cd4 is extremely low, what are somethings i need to avoid to keep myself safe while i recover?

What can i take for headaches?   I heard ibuprofen is not recommended on genvoya.
Dx - 8/8/17
1st test - 8/10/17 - VL 337000 CD4 27
8/18/17 - Vl 277000 CD4 17 Started Genvoya, Bactrim and zithomax
9/27/17 - VL 240 CD4 108

It's great that you are on an antiretroviral and the appropriate prophylactics so soon after infection and diagnosis. That will prove to be a very good thing for your immune system.

Question 1:  I don't think there's anything specific you should avoid.  Just keep to your regimen to protect you from any potential opportunistic infections and reduce your viral load, which will allow your CD4's to recover.  Check with your doctor for any other advice, but it seems to me that you just need to take all your medications as directed and go about living your life.

Question 2:  Ask your doctor what non-ibuprofen medication can mitigate any headaches you may have (if you have them):

Hi pozguy909,

Since my cd4 is extremely low, what are somethings i need to avoid to keep myself safe while i recover? --> you need lots of patient here. CD4 will increase very slow. it took me almost 18 months to reach 200 level. Also important to know that you will be fine as soon as your VL is down.

The weeks coming to your next blood result will likely also makes you anxious. thats is normal.

Wish you all the best. Thanks

Hi pozguy909,

Not to pry but what do you mean as your CD4 count is low?  My CD4 count was 2 when I was diagnosed and only found out I was positive when I was admitted to the hospital for what turned out to be PCP.

I am also on bactrim, zithromax but with Atripla.  Just started my third month of Atripla 2 weeks ago.

A few recommendations that the nurses and my ID doctor encourages me to do is the following:

-Adhere to a Neutropenic Diet (I do the best I can).  Simply make sure all your food is thoroughly cooked, no fast food, fountain pop/soda out of the question.
-Drink distilled water
-My ID doctor also wants me to stay on allergy medication

Before I take anything I ask my ID doctor or at least ask your pharmacist about reactions.  In addition make sure your ID doctor knows all of your other Rx's as they can have odd reactions as well.

Not sure if this is helpful but hope it was.

I use this website to check for interactions. There are others out there. Also google can help for the times when you cannot make to your doctor to ask in person.

Hi

Just wanted to say that being diagnosed can be hard news to digest at first, but you are going to be okay, things do get better and you are taking first class treatment.

The people on the thread have given you great advice, so remember to take it easy and if anything does come up, feel free to vent/post about it.

Jim.
