Why my medical marijuana dispensery only takes cash
« on: April 30, 2012, 12:21:58 pm »
Interesting article in the local paper today how banks have been shutting down the accounts of medical marijuana dispensaries.

I find the federal governments crackdown on marijuana dispensaries since President Obama took office to be dissapointing.

"Despite President Obama's indication during his campaign that he would be more laissez-faire, his administration has been more aggressive in targeting the booming industry than previous administrations."

Jimmy Kimmel brought this issue up at the WH Correspondents Dinner, right to the President.  And, there wasn't that big of a punchline.  You could tell Jimmy was making a statement, as well as a joke.  I tried pulling up this link, but my puter is acting up, so not sure if article mentions that.

Even as a kid, I never understood why or how something one could possibly grow in their backyard was illegal.  I could smoke my bluegrass until I got sick and that would be totally legal.  Made no sense to me as a kid and certainly doesn't now.  Alcohol causes liver disease, breaks up families, and people who drive drunk cause thousands of injuries and deaths each year.  People who smoke pot usually sit at home and do it.  And, it is very rare to hear someone killed someone in a car accident, due to smoking.  I always find it so hypocritical for people who go out drinking and then drive home to say pot should be illegal.

Ted it's because "the pot" will cause you to become a paranoid social deviant with cannibalistic tendencies.  Haven't you seen Reefer Madness?

smoke and mirrors and disinformation. check out he marijuana tax act of 1937.

dupont and dow corning have been among the biggest anti-pot contributors. there is a long list of industrial uses for hemp oil, that threatens big corporate profits.

why does the paper industry oppose marijuana? randolph hearst felt his massive timber investments were threatened. one acre of hemp yields as much pulp as four acres of pine trees. pine trees take 20 to renew that four acres, hemp takes less than six months. again, government is protecting business profits.

rockefeller, hearst, mellon, dupont. in the 1930s these men wielded massive power, when they spoke the nation was forced to listen. their profits and investments were being threatened.

There's a popular documentary on it that I watched on Netflix.  Sorry, I've watched about five or six of them so can't remember the name.  If you have NetFlix and are interested, I'm sure you can find it.

I think the laws today are more influenced by politics.  Until well over 50% want to see pot legalized, it won't be.  Obama's losing my vote with this latest waste of taxpayer money.  I think he's just covering his ass so as not to give Romney ammunition to use against him.  Obama has a very astute political team around him.

well damn matty, if you're interested, google it up. i wasn't talking outta my ass. but do please keep me in line, i'd hate to contribute anything you don't feel is worthwhile.

someone else mentioned reefer madness, a movie released in 1936. in 1937 the marijauna tax act was passed. i thought it helpful to look at the climate that existed at the time.

look at history through whatever lenses you choose. believe whatever you want, i'm not trying to win over any hearts and minds.

so take your pick
