Kidney disease due to Genvoya
« on: October 17, 2017, 06:10:47 am »
I have been taking Genvoya for 48 days already and on my 30th day, I've had my blood test. While my CD4 is 530 and my VL is down to undetectable level, my kidney markers are not good as my creatinine went up to 129 and eGFR=60 from the normal level before starting the treatment. I have my blood retest and urine test last week and got an e-mail that we need to discuss further. Is there anyone out there who have a similar experience? Did you switch to other ARV? I kind of worried and my anxiety is killing me now. I still have to wait until next week to meet my ID doctor.

Your reading too much into a single measurement, snap shot moment. Drink plenty of fluids when taking your meds and follow up with the doctor, sounds like just a settling in concern if everything was okay before.

Take it easy

48 days isn't long enough to "cause" kidney disease. It could be indications of disease, but it occupe be something else. See what your doctor says.

Just an update, my urinalysis turn out fine (no detectable albumin) and so it seems my body is indeed just adjusting with the medication. My GP and ID doctor also suspect that my herbal medicine for hayfever, whose active ingredient is astragalus, might be the cause of this so I stop it immediately. Anyway, we will monitor closely my kidney markers. Thanks for the positive feedback guys....I feel so thankful also with both my GP and ID doctors for making sure not only to keep the virus at bay but also in managing any side effects of the treatment.

Glad to hear you are fine.

You shouldn't be taking anything herbal or over the counter without checking with your doctor to be honest.

I would say good lesson in not panicking or jumping to conclusions. ;)
