Am I at risk for doing oral?
« on: August 04, 2017, 01:59:26 pm »
Hello everybody, about 5 weeks ago I had sex with my bf with protection (vaginal only). But then I gave him a BJ and he ejaculated in my mouth and then I stuck my tongue out to show him and I swallowed it right after. He assures me he is clean and has nothing. Have I contracted HIV and do I need to be tested to confirm?

I'm clean I wash. I'm also living with HIV but It doesn't make me dirty.

Look the mouth without damage such as open wounds simply lacks the cell types for HIV to infect. So lack of route for HIV infection, also saliva and the mouth are a hostile environment for HIV.

All in all you simply have no need to run out and panic after giving a BJ. Just test as routine whenever you are next due and remember to at least test yearly for STI's including HIV.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

So does it matter to be tested if my bf has had past partners and slept with them? How difficult is it for women to transmit the disease to a man if they only did unprotected oral on them? Sorry I am just anxious.

His past is irrelevant.
What matter is if what you were doing with him and how. For the sake of assessments here will always by default presume the person you were with is HIV positive. The answer I have given you remains the same.

the mouth without damage such as open wounds simply lacks the cell types for HIV to infect. So lack of route for HIV infection, also saliva and the mouth are a hostile environment for HIV.

All in all you simply have no need to run out and panic after giving a BJ. Just test as routine whenever you are next due and remember to at least test yearly for STI's including HIV.

As for Receiving a BJ ( I think that is the question) it is not a HIV risk, nobody has ever been infected this way and he will not be making world history anytime soon.

Okay thank you. This will be the last question. I can take a test optionally for peace of mind only? Should it be at 6 weeks or at the 12th week? I know you told me that transmission in this way is low but I'm just making sure.

If you ever have a real world risk than test at 6 weeks for a result and at 3 mounts to confirm the result.
