Title: Ache/Sporadic Right Back Pain
Post by: RobbyR on February 01, 2013, 07:00:01 pm
Had been doing good lately, and a couple days ago all of a sudden at night I got this dull ache in my right upper back, under my rib cage. Started out in the evening and got progressively worse, from a dull ache to more of a throbbing. Was never a shooting pain like unbearable or anything, just a very annoying ache that is centered in my right back in the same spot a little below where my nipple is in front. Last night it was bad too, especially when I laid down. Just kept throbbing and aching for like two hours. It was the same the night before. Today the ache is still there but it is more dull during the day. No fever or anything, no nausea. What could this be? A pulled muscle? Gallbladder? I'm only 30, slim, 172lbs, 5'11. Granted I could have better eating habits but I am slim built and don't have any underlying health problems other than HIV which is under control.

Just kind of scares me a bit because I never had this before. I am going for a follow-up to my primary care doc in a week or so, because I am taking anti-depressants and she wants to follow up with me for that. But I am wondering what this back pain could be. I really hope it isn't gallbladder. And I don't think it is kidney because no urinary issues and it seems to be centered higher up than kidney.

The people I've known with gall bladder problems always complained of pain in the front, not back. (think of a line straight down or slanted slightly toward the center from your nipple, around the area of where your ribs stop)

It could be lots of things; a pulled muscle, a cracked rib, an unhappy liver or lung. Your best bet would be to see your doctor if this persists.

I had back aches in about the same area last year. Never found out what it was from though. I could not sleep for 4-5   :o  nights, just kept taking tramadols, ibuprofens, benzos  :P. One night the pain disappeared and the next day or so I wasn't popping handfuls of pills. I ended up having a seizure(first time for that ever) and going to the   :(  hospital.
It only happened one other time after. I called my doc  8)  immediately he called in a muscle relaxant to my
pharmy. Took it for a couple days (can make you really  :-X sleepy) and that seemed to have been the problem
and the solution for me. Also I had a lot of stress  >:(  and a bs back during that period, looking back
that my have played the bigger part.
If you do have stress, it can screw with your body in many ways!  Good luck  :)
