Yoga?
« on: February 15, 2007, 02:34:17 pm »
Hello Everyone, I'm just curious if anyone practices Yoga here?  For those of you who practices yoga, do you guys find that it has increased your energy level? What other types of beneficial factors have you experienced after practicing yoga?  Is it sorta like meditation?

i'm just trying to look for some other healthy activities other than the usual exercising routine.

Thanks,
Justin

My ASO said they were gonna have yoga starting in Januray but I had to wait til this month for whatever reason. Anyhue, so I went to my first ever yoga last week and some of it was easy and a lot of it was tough. (However I think someone who goes to the gym and stretches regularly will find  little difficulties with yoga)

I went in cold and tense and when the class was over I felt warmed and blood circulation was much better

The teacher "Juan" was cute LOL. He told us what most of the moves were "for". Apparently putting your legs up in the air and against something is good for overall blood circulation LOL  :D

I also had a little sweat going too after. When I asked Juan, he told me that yogi's who do advanced yoga can lead an advanced class to sweat buckets which he says is very cleansing

Edited to add: Pozzies in New York City should look into Iyengar Yoga in Chelsea which offers free yoga for pozzies. Schedule & details unknown, so find out.  Also the GMHC (also in Chelsea) has classes on Thursdays and supposedly Tuesdays too (I can never seem to get a straight answer about the Tuesday schedule). Yes- I have been doing yoga for years. I started when I used to run, and wanted to help with stretching. I then found I liked yoga better. I practice hatha yoga, but have also done a little kundalini yoga. A strenuous yoga practice can be a great workout.

It depends on what my practice consists of on how I feel. There are poses that are more relaxing and rejuvenating, and there are some that are for strength and power. I ususally choose which practice I follow based on how I feel that day.

There are also poses which are done to help certain conditions, like nausea, diarrhea..

I really like the Total Yoga Series. They have different practices, it focuses on proper breath work and it also has a really nice relaxation section in the end.

If you have any other questions, please ask.

I love doing yoga and one day to actually become much more flexible.  I find that even though I tend to be sweating after the class, I'm much more relaxed.  I recommend it highly to everyone!
