Title: Joe Killfoile
Post by: Jody on February 02, 2016, 02:07:24 am
It is with great sadness to inform all you fine folks here that our beloved Joe Killfoile has passed away.  Joe goes back a long way on these forums, well over a decade and was a great contributor and moderator here and had sage advice for so many.

His beloved Stephen is beside himself.  Having been to Joe and Stephens wedding in Montreal in 2006 this hits particularly hard.  I know it will for Jan and so many others hete as well.

We have lost so many, the last year or so have been wery hard.  Peace to all of you and take good care of your most precious health.

Truly very sorry to hear of Joe's passing.

Sadly I did not know Joe very well however he was a great support to me at first and will be missed.

I know so many of you are very close to Joe and my heart and thoughts go out to you today and I wish you all strength during this difficult period.

Jim.

Dearest joe,

I have only known you on the forums for a little while. Like myself you were there for much of the "Newly s" on here. You have given us all inspiration to live a normal life and i honestly don't know what i would have done if you had not talked to me. I cant thank you enough for the information you have provided me with and the loving energy you passed down to many.

I am terribly sorry, rest in peace joe <3

I hate saying this and I'm sure you hated doing it; but thank you for passing along this very sad news. Having gone through this too many times, every time I saw an update to any of the threads about Joe, I was afraid of the news I knew we'd be getting eventually.

Joe was a big part of the aidsmeds forums and did well at a very hard, yet important, job here. It's a sad day today here as we remember someone who touched many lives by teaching HIV information and giving away personal advice on how to live - whether you were HIV poz or not.

Thank you for all your work Joe and rest in peace.  :'(

This is very sad news indeed.

Joe was always a big presence in these forums - never afraid to speak his mind.  He was always there to offer his wisdom and support.  I am so glad that I got to meet him in Boston - I'll never forget the imposing figure he cut in that leather kilt at the Meet and Greet.

Rest in Peace Joe -- you will be missed.   :'(

I never met Joe IRL but spent years following his posts. He seemed to genuinely care about the forum members. Often there were times I wanted to respond to someone's post but Joe would respond in a much better way. He will be missed.

This is really sad news.  My condolences to his family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

Who would have thought that Joe's and David's memoriam threads would be back to back like this.  Unbelievable and sad.

My love to all who knew Joe and supported him through this time.  I was just reading some of his old posts, especially the one on forgiveness, and he was such an inspiration and blessing to all of us.

I also read he did some clinical trials years back and I cannot begin to express my thanks to him and all of you LTS.  Without you, I would not be here and be so fortunate to take this one pill a day. His life was not in vain!

I pray for the ones he has left behind - may God comfort your soul and bring you a glimpse of hope as we all mourn Joe's loss.

May he now be in peace … Joe has been struggling and fighting for over a year now and the only positive thing I can find in this is he is not suffering today for the first time in a very long time. He will be missed and he will be remembered.

RIP Dear Joe,..

Joe was one of the first people, to respond to me, when I joined the forums in December of 2003.

I've always had a deep respect for Joe, for his honesty, and his truthfulness.

One of the things I admired about Joe, was his openness to discuss depression, and his own issues with depression, long before he became HIV positive himself.

This took a lot of courage, as he openly and honestly spoke of these issues, to many here on the forums.

Steven, please take care of yourself.

Joe will be sadly missed,...  RIP Joe,...  You really changed and improved the lives of so many, and for that you will always be remembered. You were truly an Activist, to make peoples lives just a little more informed, about living with HIV, and dealing with depression.

You were an inspiration to many.

Ray  :'(

I told Joe more than once, he owes us a book. His wisdom helped so many learn to live with HIV.

He leaves a legacy we shouldn't forget. As time takes our LTSer's, I think it's important to remember their collective stories.

From some of his first memories of fighting the virus.

To his last message for us...

Here's hoping that while we may not get everything we want in 2016... that we will have all that we need.

Joe

Joe, maybe too late now, but I'm sorry. I felt like a child every time we spoke, and I acted like it most times.

I talked to Joe last May when I visited Montreal.  We chatted each time before I visited and usually several times during my visits.  The last time he had health issues and could not get out and about.  I remember first meeting him at my first AMG in Montreal prior to his moving there.  He was quite memorable at Ric and Thom's wedding (who could forget those outfits?) and more importantly was such an important and loving presence on these forums.

To add to the others, he will be greatly missed.  His spirit will endure forever....

This too saddens me,  he was a strong advocate for this forum. I still remember him chastising me for posting in forms that I shouldn't be.

Rest easy dear soul,

Joe was a gem. I was honored to meet him in Montreal, and grateful to visit with him again in Boston. Regardless of how guarded he poised himself, he was comfortable when he was comfortable. I admired him greatly.

With love to Joe,

Vale Joe.

The first thread on AM I ever encountered was you, Daddy Tim, Alisenjafi and Ric Wilke arguing over Terry Schiavo.

Dance Meat Puppet!

Well that was a long time ago. We didn't always see eye to eye, but we knew each other.

Rest well, older one.

Joe was a great guy; I enjoyed the time we spent together.  He was a beloved member of the Forums, and one of the first people to chat with me back in 2005.

Joe, you were dearly loved.  You will be missed by many, certainly by me.  You were always one to pave the way; save me a seat. I'll see you again.

Some good folks here, including Wade wanted to know about Joe's beloved four legged friends.

Stephen said the dogs went to separate homes and one cat is with the concierge of the building.  Stephen kept the cat they had rescued in Florida, so he now has three furry felines.

Be well all.

Our paths crossed many times in Key West, though we didn't know each other.
He sat at the pool bar at Atlantic Shores when I was tending bar and remembered me.
We had a marathon phone conversation one night about old and better times, he was getting very ill then. I think of him with fondness and miss him.

😔 I wish I could take back the arguments I had with him during the short time we've conversed on the forums. He was very knowledgeable about many things HIV and beyond.
He added a new word to my vocabulary that whenever I say it, I remember it was he who introduced it to me.. "empathy".

Thank you Joe Killfoile, 🌹RIP
