Hello all AMGers!
I'm planning on buying my ticket for Boston when my tax refund is deposited in my account. (the 6th)
What I'm not sure of is whether to include enough time for a visit to Provincetown. I've never been there and since this year's gathering is so close I'm thinking why not.
Is anyone else thinking of doing "PTown" too?
I don't know anything about the logistics of getting there. Do we walk, crawl ::), swim >:(, drive, fly, or what?
I also don't know anything about lodging.
So I guess I've got two questions:
1. Is anyone else thinking of going on to Provincetown after AMG?
2. Are there any members who can offer some advice on where to stay and how best to get there?

Saw your post. It's easy to get to P-town from Boston. Take the ferry:

You got to remember your going during the High Season (crowded and expensive). Lots of Fun !
Make reservations early. You do not need an automobile. P-town is about as big as Key West.
Google P-town for guest houses. They come in all prices.

good advice from Veritas.... I would add that it is a good idea to get a reservation for the ferry as soon as you decide when you want to go.....they can quickly fill or sell out on busy warm sunny days..... I haven't done that trip for a while but it is worth looking into the schedule/ availability of places on the ferry..... extra good advice don't even consider taking a car or driving... big hassle no parking/ expensive long car trip from Boston....
I bet several folks would consider a day trip or overnight ..there are just so many bars/souvenir/art shops, etc you can visit that taking the early ferry staying all day and an overnight then the next day come back on the late ferry....continue in Boston...
maybe leave early sat morning stay over Sat night ..come back on late ferry on Sun .. continue around Boston on Mon if you can still walk... I would consider doing that...

Count me in. I've never done it either. P town or Key WEst or that place where the Manhattenites go...they've never been on my itinerary. It's never too late. A boat road sounds nice. Nick's idea sounds good to me.

I have always wanted to visit P-town also. I also think the ferry is the best way to get there and back. Let me know what you are thinking.... I would be interested too!

Niceguy, Robert, and LouAVull, it does sound like fun doesn't it? (I can just see all the fairies on the ferry. Snicker Snicker)
It says the fast ferry makes the trip in 90 minutes vs the older one which takes 3 hours. So if this is just a day trip, obviously that'd be the way to go.

Sounds like fun, maybe we can go during the following week after our only weekend in Boston and the walking tour and Friday and Saturday nights in the city...The weekdays should be cheaper and far fewer people, maybe a long day trip would be good. Let's talk.

This sounds like it may grow some legs pretty quick even if only 6 or so folks decide to make the trip it would be a lot of fun...... From past experience ( a long time ago) almost any nice summer day is crowded....there may be a few less people on the ferries during the week but Ptown in the summer is a mob scene.....the only advantage to a Sat trip is that there are more choices of ferry trips during the week,if I remember correctly, only one boat runs two or three round trips..on weekends at least two boats do round trips....so with a little advance planning any day would be good.... should we start scouting some B&Bs for an overnight stay??

Just a suggestion guys. If you plan to stay overnight, it's not too early to start making reservations now
as Nick says. A lot of guest houses require minimum stays and the guest houses that don't fill up quick.
Who knows though, maybe the tough economy will make planning easier. But it doesn't hurt to make phone calls.

Great idea.
I'm in Provincetown two to three times a year and thoroughly enjoy it.
Top guest houses include the Crowne Point (http://www.crownepointe.com/), the Brass Key (http://www.brasskey.com), and the Prince Albert (http://www.princealbertguesthouse.com/).
Also consider either the Gifford House Inn (http://www.giffordhouse.com/) or The Crown and Anchor Inn (http://www.onlyatthecrown.com/inn/). The Gifford House accommodations aren't particularly stunning, but the place boasts a great "Porch Bar" downstairs, great for drinks before heading to the A House little bar, upstairs Macho Room and adjacent dance club (all a must). And at The Croown and Anchor, you have The Vault, Wave Bar and Paramount dance club downstairs.
You may also wish to consider staying at the Boat Slip (http://www.boatslipresort.com/), on Commercial Street. While not exactly cheap, it's right on the harbor and hosts an immensely popular tea dance every afternoon. Plus, there are no minimum reservation requirements -- you can stay one or two nights, if that's all you're interested in.
And as everyone else has said, the ferry from Boston is part of the Provincetown experience and you absolutely do not need a car in town (in fact, you'd be crazy to have one).

Hey RAB, et al,
Count me in! I've never been to P-town. There is no time like the present to change that!
One thing, though. I would prefer to do P-town after Boston, just because I have never been to Boston either and I want to see and do as much as I can.
Just a suggestion. I will, of course, go with the flow.

I'm currently planning on going to Ptown on Tuesday and spending 2 nights. What's everyone else thinking of doing. Anyone picked out a place yet?
