Title: Question for the men on Atripla...
Post by: iking2009 on February 15, 2010, 01:56:35 pm
I've took my 1st atripla pill last thursday night.. I havent had many of the side effect that ive read about, besides feeling drunk the 1st morning.  But one side effect that i have been experiencing is the "morning wood".  Of course most men experience this on a daily basis, like myself.  But dang!!  It seems like everytime i wake up, no matter what time it is in the morning, Its extra pumped up!!  And its not your average eraction.  Its more of a cramp lol  Nothing extreme though so dont worry.  And NO sexual dreams involved...Anyone else?  Or is it just me?!?!

I was hornier than I had been, but before HAART my body and mind was exhausted. Maybe your body and mind has breathed with relief, too, and its your body's way of saying thanks.

There have been a few threads in which people have mentioned they get more sexual on Atripla, links below.

Also, not that this applies to you but I've read that many ARV meds raise the levels of Cialis and Viagra so if a person is taking those, they should take less than they normally would.

I've noticed that I'm dreaming a lot more just in general since I've started Atripla.  If I had to guess I would say you're probably having some sort of erotic dream that you simply don't remember.  The vividness of my dreams tends to come and go and of course none of them have been as vivid as the first week.

Yes, for the short time I was on Atripla I had the morning wood, which I hadn't had in years.

The first few weeks after starting Atripla... I was surprised with intensity and frequency of my morning boners and I'm in my mid 40s.
Things did go back to normal after a month of so, although I still think they happen more often now compared to when I wasn't on treatment.

Just call me Woody Woodpecker   ;D

No exceptional morning wood here either. Although it's only been 3 days. I'll keep checking; so to speak.

No,  you are not alone :) and I'm glad to hear it's not just me experiencing this. I started Atripla on the 23rd February 2010 and since I started I get woken two three times a night with wood so hard it's like I'm a teenager again. It's even harder than a boner on Viagra. And impossible to have that middle of the night piss standing up ! .....

I'm glad to say that I have had no other real side effects bar a little dizziness in the mornng which has got less week by week. My dreams have been vivid, but enjoyable. I have been sleeping really well. I caught a mild sore throat two days ago which previously would have developed into bronchitis and had to resist reaching for the antibiotics. Today it is almost gone. My energy levels have improved and I am feeling better than I ever have since being diagnosed two and a half years ago.

Best of all my viral load dropped from 70,000 to 216 in the space of the first two weeks and my doctors anticpate that my next set of tests should show me as being undetectable.

So to all those out there worries about starting on Atripla, I have only positive things to say about  it. Maybe I am lucky, but of all the terrible things you hear about as side effects, I haven't had any experience of them at all. Maybe there are still some to come. But one month in,  so far so good and I am quietly confident that I am going to be ok on this regime. I just regret delaying until my CD4 dipped below 250. There is some research which now advocates starting at 500 when the body is healthier. If I could do it again, I would go for that option, which makes logical sense. I only delayed because of a (needless, as it turns out!) fear of the medication.

Good luck to all the newbies out there. Don't fear the meds. They are your friend. Keep a positive attitude and they will work well for you.

when I first started atripla last september I experienced this also...it was great!!  I fully took advantage of the situation if you know what I mean...haha.  Anyway,  now that I have been on it a while I don't see it as much, just your normal "activity".

It probably has to do with the sudden boost in immune system when starting it I would imagine.

Six weeks in for me, and the morning wood has subsided (more's the pity).

Morning wood is a part of my existence, I can't blame it on Atripla.
