New Labs (and some questions)
« on: August 26, 2008, 01:47:13 pm »
Got my results today
CD4 675 (up from 600)
VL 250K!!!!  (up from 10K)
%29 (down from 32)

Dr thinks spike in viral load is causing me fatigue and we are retesting in a month since my VL never went about around 50K.  He mentioned if it stays this high then I should probably start meds.  That kinda bummed me because I thought I had a way to go since my CD4 have been hovering in that good range for about 2 years.  They actually went up.

Any advice how to naturally lower your VL ( I know this is a dumb question because if we could then there would be no need for antivirals).

The only think I noticed I have done different this month is not take a multivitamin everyday (dumb me I know).  I started them again about two weeks ago.

That pretty much sums it up. Taking a multivitamin daily is probably good for you in a number of ways, but it has no effect on your viral load or cd4...

One test is meaningless though. If your VL has always been around 50k, you should draw another in 3 months. If it is still at that level, then a discussion about meds is probably wise....

Pete,

I had the same shock a couple of weeks ago (see numbers in my sig line) although my VL did not shoot up as dramatically as yours. Doc says if it stays there I will have to start meds in 2 mos.

As far as the Multivitamin, I have been taking them religiously for 9 months, never missed, so at least for me that had nothing to do with my little spike. good luck, and lets hope we both just have blips :)

Viral load is immaterial in itself pre-treatment. If you're feeling shit then meds will quell the viral replication and restore energy. This needs to be set against possible downsides of meds long-term, eg side effects, if any.

But a spike like this, one off, as a test result, is not news. Feeling tired is though, pay attention to your body eh?

Multivitamins do not affect viral load (okay, in truth, there's never been a study, but the biochemistry is not on favour of there being a relationship)

Thanks for taking the time to answer.   I know the multivitamin wont neccessarily lower my VL, just grasping at straws what has been different in the last three months that my VL would go up so much.

fingers crossed it is a fluke but I am listening to my body more then whats on paper at this point and at this point Pete is feeling sleepy :(

I got my bloodwork redone today.

Got my results today
CD4 700 (up from 675)
VL 16K (down from 250K)
%30 (up from 29%).

I feel much better then I did when my VL was at 250K.  I dont know what that was all about, but it seems to be back to my usual pattern.  Now we have to work on my cholesterol (I am a fatass).

No meds yet!  I am glad I didnt have to start because I am looking for a new job and having to worry about that would just be added stress.

Ok, I am out.

Pete

Got my results today
CD4 700 (up from 75)
VL 16K (down from 250K)
%30 (up from 29%).

Nice results, Pete.  And a nicedrop in VL, especially for not being on meds.  Be sure to keep following up with your doctor regularly.

Now now -- I hate to see you put yourself down.  Working on lowering your cholesterol is a positive step for you to be taking.

Cheers,

Wow, I'm glad to see your VL can drop like that in a month. :)  Hope my results are as good (110K a couple weeks ago) when I'm tested again!
