Atripla & Food
« on: July 15, 2012, 03:01:00 pm »
Hi guys. I have just started meds and have been on Atripla for a week now. Everything has been fine with no side effects whatsoever. I was told to take on an empty stomach, an hour before food or 2 hours after but didn't find out if this was due to absorption or side effects. Due to my work, I eat at very random times so I have actually missed a few meals so that I can take the tablet at the same time each night. Is it fine to eat with Atripla or will this affect how much of the drugs will be absorbed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Caleb.

Food in the stomach tends to increase central nervous system side effects from efavirenz (one of the drugs in Atripla) and decrease the farting from tenfovir (another of the drugs in Atripla) << if you get these

The advice to take Atripla at night on an empty stomach is to reduce the central nervous side effects from efavirenz (balance upset, vivid dreams etc) and confine them to your sleeping period.

Food does not affect whether or not any of the drugs in Atripla work or not.
