I know race is still a big issue, but this did surprise me. At first, I thought the all white prom was something put on by the good Christian folks, separate from the school sanctioned prom. But, this is the school prom.
It is a reminder how parts of the country are still decades behind. I just don't understand how this is still possible, even in the most backward areas.

Then they'll let same sex couples attend. Then the USA will be close to becoming the worst of French socialism and Brazilian mulattoism, combined. But armed local militia will save the homeland.

I was glad to see this on our local news , as Southern Missouri is
as backwards as any deep south State can be .
I do not know how this can continue , and why ?
I'm hoping one day the USA will become a civil place to live for all .

It will take generations to weed out hate.

America really is a amalgam of two completely different social, cultural, religious, and political universes.
My first reaction to this story was confusion. I mean, how can a school have two proms?
Then watching the story I see this was their FIRST integrated prom. In 2013 and it was considered controversial?
I try and imagine what it would be like here if a school even suggested at having a white only prom. I think all hell would break loose.
This isn't meant to be an insult, but I really wonder, how can people live in a place like that?

Bugs, I agree with you on your thoughts in generalities but America is really an amalgam of an infinite number of differences.
The combinations that make up each of us is almost endless.

I wonder about this as well but something tells me that human connections and circumstances are what they are and the more open minded of us that live in a bad environment tend to spread like flowers amongst the weeds.
Yes, there are "weeds" in Connecticut as well.
It's up to all of us to keep them in check simply by digging our roots in deep where we land and not giving up. :)

Twitter hate speech map, which breaks down hate tweets by racist, homophobic, and disabled remarks. The zoomed out view is very, very depressing looking. When you zoom in, it doesn't look as bad. I noticed here in Louisville, the big red zone was on the far east side. That is where more white, affluent, and conservative live. For example, Papa John's estate is out that way. But, Muhammed Ali lives out there, too.
It did make me wonder who uses Twitter. It seems most of my more educated friends use it. My nieces and nephews tell me twitter is more popular than Facebook among the youngin'.

Am I actually supposed to consider this accurate -- South Carolina is practically void of hate speech!
Philadelphia, as progressive as it can be in government, all I have to do is delve down in the comments section of an article on the newspaper's web site to see all sorts of vile racist commentary.
