But the stupid insurance company needed pre-authorization for the three months of Truvada.
Because, you know, it's completely normal to take Sustiva by itself without another fucking medication.
I went to the pharmacy today after calling my doctor, and the damn Truvada still hadn't gone through. I'm gonna call them tomorrow.
If it doesn't go through within 48 hours, I am officially up the creek.
Sans paddle.
Fucking goddamn insurance cunts with their shit jobs and their fucking asshole need for pre-authorization.
I'm done.
Well, I'm not... but I feel a little wrung out and am willing to wait while I look for jobs on teh Internets.
-
Sitting on it huh. I'd suggest you remove it from betwix your buttocks and refidgerate it post haste.

But it feels so good up in there.
All worthless.
It's lonely without its Truvada life partner... I'm thinking of suing my insurance company for discrimination against my Sustiva's needs.
-
I've been told it's white with Sustiva, red with Truvada, darling.

Well.........if it doesn't get approval, it was a clever attempt. I do hope it comes through for you but don't hold your breath.
Are you sure you need to leave this place of employment. Are you sure you can't meet the co-pays? Insurance is so damn hard to get and everyone is getting shafted.....,you know.
Wait a minute. You live in NYC. Rent is a BIG expense. OK, I see. You'd be working just to buy meds, pay rent, eats, and rest would go to utilities.

I live in Richmond.
And my job is switching us over to a high deductible health plan on 1 Mar. They informed of this last week. It's a long story involving everyone in my company being screwed. Including yours truly.

travada is 300mg Viread, and 200mg Emtriva right?
I have 2 months worth of Viread you can have, Maybe Lisa has some emtriva..

What does pre-approval even accomplish for these companies with something like Truvada? I somehow think it's a drug that's irresponsibly and carelessly prescribed on a big scale by the medical community.
You would think they could just flag your profile after seeing a billing code from someone saying "HIV" for these drugs. I don't remember EVER getting pre-authorization for HIV medication the entire decade I was on private insurance.
-
Have you spoken to the HR department at work? They usually have some pull over the insurance company. My company is a small organization but when the HR department calls, they get results.

I know!
But Truvada is, to my knowledge, the preferred NRTI starter because it's side effects and toxicity are lower than with others.
My doctor's office is calling them like mad... but I'm getting worried now.
At first I was stressed, now I'm worried... and I'm drinking. I haven't really drank since this mess started (and when I did drink on Friday, it was because I was out with friends) and handled it like a big, mature sober adult.
But I feel like I'm entitled to mimosa myself into a nice hazy state right now.
My brain feels stretchy... and I just want this to be over either way.
Thank you, Lis! And thank you to everyone else! You all are amazing!
I've only had one drink thus far... so you know I mean it. ;D

I may have some truvada at home. But its old. How important is the use by date?

Oops! It was philly who use to live in NYC. Sorry. You guys go back and forth so much on communications that I got screwed up a bit.
My partner was hit with similar changes. ( I read your earlier post. ) Only his is deductible increased to $2000. Then everything after is covered. He paid out his co-pay with the first order of meds! Luckily, he could afford it. What's going to happen next time they negotiate for insurance coverage is anyone's guess.
-

My Atripla says to discard after a year... but I don't know what that means, exactly either.
-
The check is in the mail HEHEHEHE..
and AC, as long as its not expired ... pass it on down!!!!
-
the use by date from the pharmasist is NOT the same as the expiration date... you'll find that next to the lot#
-
I'm on the phone with the bastards right now.

My Atripla says to discard after a year... but I don't know what that means, exactly either.
An read an article in AARP laying around at my parent's house and it said generally you can still use medications longer than the label, I don't recall how long. Of course they'd prefer if you throw them out and get NEW pills, wouldn't they?
-
This is such bullshit.
"Jenny" at the Inshitance company said they don't have any record of anything regarding the Truvada... not even a record that my doc has called (and the doc said they called). But that might be because they "haven't had time to put it in the system." This is getting quite ridiculous.
Le sigh.
-
I just looked up the cost of Truvada at walgreens.com and a 90 day supply is only $2,702.99!! What's more, the price for a 90 day supply costs 2 cents more than 3 consecutive monthly purchases of a 30 day supply at $900.99 each.
I don't know what you're complaining about since anyone should be able to pop $900 out of thin air given a full two week's notice!
Please don't distract us again unless it's something really important like an infected hangnail or worse.

That said, I hope I have $2.99 in change in the couches.

They are so lucky I was only one drink in when I called them.
If not... there would have been... well, let's just say that the expression "to go postal" would have been replaced with "to go Truvada." ;)
-
Oh, is the pre-approval because it's a 3-month supply, but you don't need this pre-approval if it's a one-month supply? Just get a month then.
-

No. The Sustiva went through without the pre-approval. I have three months of Sustiva on me right now.
I don't know what the hell they're doing.
-
In the mean time, being a practical drug pharmokinetics sort of guy, I suggest you take your Truvada every other day (advantage of a massively gentle drug elimination curve). That gives you (them) 96 hours. (Boy, your insurance system needs a rocket up the arse.)

I just don't "get" it I guess. What did you do LAST month?
-
Newt... I would do just that... but I'm taking Atripla which is Sustiva and Truvada together... so I have no Truvada.
This is why I'm in such a bind.
-
So you're telling us they sent you Sustiva on it's own and you're still waiting for Atripla?
Yeeesh.
MtD
-
I don't get that...
if it's Atripla then you got all the meds you need, cos Atripla is all three meds in one handy tab
if it's Sustiva + Truvada then you's got two tab and you is one short, as per previous posts?
Well?

This thread is confusing.
-
I think he what he was referring to is that he has been on ATRIPLA so he doesnt have the Truvada to dose the way newt says. His new insurance may have something to do with why he is back to Sustiva and Truvada. Probably cost.

Almost. I got the Sustiva. Am waiting for the Truvada.
I've been taking Atripla. It's a very long story... essentially my doc prescribed me three months of the medication separately because Sustiva and Truvada are on my insurance company's formulary to preempt my job's switch over to a high deductible health plan change my job just sprung on us... it would mean that I would have to pay for my Atripla costs out of pocket (all $1,200 per month worth) until I hit $2,000... at which point, the insurance company would begin paying for it. So, we went for Sustiva+Truvada because the insurance company said they would pay for it on their formulary.
They paid for the Sustiva... no problem.
Dragging their heels when it comes to the Truvada.
WHICH MEANS THEY'VE WASTED THIRTEEN HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS ON SUSTIVA IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THE GODDAMN TRUVADA!
I love Uhmerica longtime.
P.S. I've been on here long enough, I feel, so that people know I've never used bad language in combination with all caps. This means I'm more upset than I have been in the entire time I've been posting here. Which is extraordinarily upset.
-
aupo's current (until 2/28/07) insurer paid for Atripla last month but aupo needs a 30 - 90 day supply of Truvada because he has 90 days worth of Sustiva. Atripla wasn't on the standard formulary but Sustiva and Truvada should have been although aupo found out Truvada isn't, which makes a hell of a lot of sense if you're a U.S. citizen with privately managed health care.

Yes. My job gave us 13 days notice that they were switching us to a high deductible health plan, which would mean that I would have spend $2,000 out of my pocket beginning on 1 March for my medications before the benefits would kick in.
My doc prescribed me a 90 day supply of Sustiva and Truvada because those are on the current formulary (Atripla, which is Sustiva and Truvada in one pill) is not. They, in theory, should have paid for all of it.

Too bad offering a blow job won't solve this quandary (for once)

Maybe you should start taking Kaletra!

Too bad offering a blow job won't solve this quandary (for once)
I know. That's my fallback position... and it doesn't seem to do much good right now....
But I'm extraordinarily glad to know that my current misery will ensure that the CEO of my insurance company will be able to have three Lear jets instead of a paltry two as part of his severance package.
-
WHICH MEANS THEY'VE WASTED THIRTEEN HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS ON SUSTIVA IF THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THE GODDAMN TRUVADA!
We feel your pain!!
Couldn't you like, uh, just drink green tea with the Sustiva? Would that combo work? Maybe Sustiva and Robitussin-DM?
By hook of by crook you'll get Truvada even if we have to send it to you two (?) per day via FedEX!!
I hope you are feeling calmer now, having had enough time to kill a brewski or meditate or chant your mantra.
Boo
P.S. aupo, dear, "Truvada" may be printed on a worthless piece of paper inside your copy of the formulary but it obviously isn't really covered if the pharmacy has to refuse to fill it (unless the pharmacy has Truvada tagged incorrectly for your plan).
P.P.S. newt, I'd love some decent acid. it doesn't seem to be available here any longer.
P.P.P.S. philly, you're so low you get vertigo in a sewer!
-
Actually, Boo... I'm thinking Sustiva and mimosas and cocaine are the perfect HIV killing cocktail right now.
Be still, my HAART.
Yes, I am a bit calmer now... the booze is working its magic... and I shall wait until tomorrow to see what the deal is.
Barring that, I think a plane ticket to Gambia might be in order... because I hear their president can cure AIDS with bananas and something resembling rubber cement.

Here's a brief: aupointillimite is stocking up for 3 months cause he knows he can't afford the new copays of the new insurance that will take affect in a couple of days. Either a new job or new way to pay for meds is in order.
He's gonna stock up like a little squirrel does.
He's got one of two meds in his hands: sustiva.
Truvada is not coming through. Pre-Approval bullshit.
the clock is ticking. he is freaking out. kapesh?

Feel free to use my story as proof whenever you hear someone say, "I know someone who knows someone who's Canadian that died waiting for surgery" that whatever their flaws... universal health care is far superior to the tottering, corporate-run system we have here in "God's Country."
Because God wants people to die, apparently.

How dare you criticize the greatest lil old country in the entire world, the USA? Where a new millionaire is made every 13.76 hours and during the same period 11564 other Americans sink below the poverty level.
Where any man, regardless of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, class, J.D. or non-J.D. can grow up to be President of the US of A, the home of freedom and democracy, a shining beacon the rest of the world can bow down to or face the righteous wrath of those with god on our side. As the pre-eminent country on the globe the USA must assume the management of "world government," a role god has decreed to be ours. There is no more need for the UN except as an information agency for the USA.
We will prevail.
