Or is it my provider? (Though I don't seem to be having problems anywhere else. ???)
The response time when I click on something, try to post a message, or send a PM, is getting slow (or slower than it was a couple of weeks ago). A few times it's even timed out before the action is completed.
Am I the only one? Or has anyone else noticed this too?
RAB
(Who is computer illiterate but has deleted cookies and does the Ad-aware scan thingy he was told to do last time this happened, it hasn't helped.)
-
No, you are not the only one having trouble.
-
I had a few periods yesterday when this forum was sluggish, and it was not my ISP as I was surfing multiple other web sites simultaneously with no problem. Today has been fine though.
-
Rab,
You are not the only one. I was going to make a comment on this the other day. My problem is between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00 EST. I have lost several posts, after I hit the button, some of which have taken me some time to get typed up. Is this site doing maintenance at those hours? Just curious. It also has been very sluggish, at other times too.
Im learning to to put my post into notepad first, and then copy over to the thread. I also know that it is only happenning here. doesn't happen on any other site that I visit at those times. I also know that my computer is not performing any maintenance at that time. ??? ???
Ray
-
Yep, something's wrong. And, like Ray, I've taken to copying anything longer than a sentence because I've lost several lengthy messages.
-
Ray,
Every day at approximately 8:15am EST, the site goes down for no more than five minutes - for the site's server to go out and get a coffee, or whatever the heck it does. It's always a good idea to check it's not near quarter past when posting at this time in the morning.
Ann
(who's lost a few posts too - 1:15pm my time. ::) )
Oh, PS, not having problems at any other time of day.

Thanks Ann. Thats almost precisely the time I start having the problems. Thanks for the info !!

I have also noticed it being sluggish here as of late. I thought maybe it was just me.
Sometimes I lose posts or PM's, a page pops up saying cannot find website ???
-
couldnt log on at all for about two days this week, and no it wasnt my isp or computer...very odd
-
7:14 CDT--everybody get ready! ;D
-
I used to lose lengthly posts after hitting "send". Then I upgraded from dial-up to high-speed and it was like winning a contest... Oh, what contest? Glad you asked... How about "Queen For A Day"? Better still... "The Price is Right" I have been to the studio many times with friends to get on that show. That is a 4.5 hour wait just to get seated in the auditorium.
Recently, I accepted an offer from the cable service provider which covered an ungrade in TV channels, telephone with free long distance in the U.S. and high speed internet. Now, when you all send links to Youtube items, I can actually enjoy without the five minute wait between words. Have the best day

Considering the number of transactions the AM servers need to service, I think the performance here is pretty good.
Certainly much better than the old FuseTalk/Windows NT setup.

MtD
I agree it's better than the old Fuse Talk. But it just happened to me again. I wrote a post, clicked on "post" and waited and waited, then I got the same message that Nadine mentioned: "Can not find web site".
I don't know, maybe it is something on my end. ??? The only reason I started this was because I've noticed a change, meaning it's been performing really well but it seemed to me that this problem (which may not be a problem) only came about recently.
I'll shut up now.

Yes, I am having slow-go troubles also. I thought it was just in PM functions, but it is now just generally slow (or noticeably slower than it was). Lately I have gotten accustomed to copying posts or PM's before sending so I can redo them if they don't go thru

I do the same thing Tim, I was growing tired of re-typing!
-
I'm going to point this thread out to Peter - you're all reported! ;D (calm down, I'm kidding!)
Seriously, I'll notify Peter and see if he has any idea what's going on. Either he or I will get back to you.
Ann

you're all reported! ;D
:D
Thanks Ann for looking into this for us
-
Yes Ann thanks for your actions. It is happened to me several times in the last few weeks. ???
-
Finding it very slow going today.
And I live in the city everyone is saying stinks. Jeeeez Tina Louise!
What's next???!!!!!
-
The past hour it's been the worst I've seen it.
-
The past hour it's been the worst I've seen it.
yup same here
-
I have noticed this for the past couple of days but today it seems especially slow. ???
-
I thought you all were full of it... 'til today! I stay logged in with a browser window minimized, so I haven't had trouble logging in. I haven't lost any posts or PM's yet, though. There's just a general sluggishness to the site. I know it's not my connection, as we have extremely fast 'net access here at work, and every other site I go to is as speedy as ever.

We're still full of it, tho.

Thanks for the update Ann. Just logged in approx. 20 minutes ago, and as I type right now, and go to the different forums it's extreemely sluggish ! Hopefully someone, will find out what going on. !
Thanks----Ray

I recently switched from AOL to Mozilla Firefox and dropped IE. With Firefox I can tell a big difference with the system it is alot faster. Just my 2 cents.
-
I just took me 4 tries to reply to a thread in living with.
-
way beyond sluggish today...
-
very sluggish for me today also....
but that's appropriate I guess, I feel kind of "sluggish" myself ;)

slow++

i sent this post yesterday.
it just now went through.

using IE and road runner and I've never encountered this problem at all.
maybe I'm special ;D or maybe it's y'all who are special? ::)
but really, when I'm not reading out by the pool (gotta get all the sun I can while it's beaming on Ohio ;)), I'm at the computer (my part time job is ComputerTutor), and hitting that "unread" button to see what everyone is chatting about, and haven't ever had a sluggish problem. I sure hope y'all can get it figured out.
-
try doing a disc clean-up, delete temporary internet files & defragment if needed. Not as sluggish for me now.
Well, that didn't help.
-
It was extremely slow for me this morning. I know it's not my server. Glad I'm not the only one.
-
I have not been having any trouble until today. This morning , for a while, my computer kept saying the site was not found. I was finally able to get here but it is very slow today and I have extreme DSL.

I just grew a beard on my last post !! :P

ME TOO! :o

Yeah, I'll join that club too.

i've had to close out and stat over several times today for this site.
me no likey.
-
Right now is the worst I've ever experienced. Had to repost posts and messages many times before they get thru.
Milker.
-
I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Now I know. >:(
I delete my temp files every day, anyway, but tonight has been awful here.
My posts have timed out, never mind sluggish, they just disappear, and I have high-speed.
This blows.
-
I could not sign in this morning using IE. Mozilla firefox took sometime to load.
-
Yes, I think it is. I signed on this morning and the forums were down for a short while.
Unrelated: I got some more memory (RAM) for my laptop and it's like a new computer. I recommend memory upgrade for anyone who has a computer a couple of years old and it's acting sluggish. I also have other tips that really worked for me. If you want just ask.

How is everyones connection status today?
-
I was responding to Davids "first" thead in off topic & the site timed out. that is the only issue I've noticed today, so far.
-
guyinsouthala, it has nothing to do with memory. I have two GB of memory and I get the DNS error or when posting a PM it takes forever for it to return to the PM or it returns with a DNS error. It's not constant issue, but it has been doing this for a little over a week and it's getting worse. It does it when repling to to messages in the forums and returning to the forum.
-
::makes primal scream noises::
-
and yeah folks, it has NOTHING to do with what browser you're using, defragging or RAM -- uh hello, EVERYONE is encountering this issue. It's on the aidsmeds side of The Internet Tubes, not OUR side.
-
I've noticed it tonight especially, though when it timed out I went back and my posts had been posted, like it was a problem on my end.
-
And the sad / bad thing is that the problem seems to be getting worse instead of improving. And this is after the IT folks were notified about it.
David
-
Well, it IS a weekend for most people in an IT department.
-
i was just about to get all excited because it seemed like it was getting better tonight, then whamm-o!
it shut down on me two or three times in a row.
they'll just to take care of it while we're doing it REAL TIME at AMG, baby! ;)
-
Losing a lot of typed post lately.
xxx,
Mike
-
Are you people using your "back" button on your browser. If I use that I recover my posts that timed out and seem lost.
Once you hit "back" and see your text it won't let you hit "post" again though, so you'll need to do a quick cut/paste of the text and begin over.
-
I hit refresh and it finally posts it. It told me once that I already posted my message, so it looks like it knows it's a duplicate.
Milker.
-
Well, it's officially been going on a week now. Time sure does fly...

I know, man, that's why I said "unrelated". I was just trying to help my fellow cyberfriends. If I had known a memory upgrade would have made my computer so much faster (not necessarity my internet faster), I would have shelled out the thirty bucks a year ago. Good luck everyone.
-
BY THE WAY! I tried telling eveyone on here a year ago that I wasn't getting notified of replies, and no one gave a rats ass. I just got used to it.
Sam
-
And what about opening up your mail (PM's)? It takes me 3 or 4 tries before it opens up. The 1st few times, it just stops. Down in the lower left hand corner the word "done" shows but nothing appears on the screen. Happened again just a few minutes ago.
robert
-
this is fucking absurd...
-
i thought it was getting better.
nope.
-
I'm just amazed that it has not been fixed yet!!!! Wonder what the site would do if it was shut down for a whole day because of the issues that have been going on and nothing has been done yet? Can we PLEASE get some answers to why this is going on?
-
or send a PM, is getting slow (or slower than it was a couple of weeks ago). A few times it's even timed out before the action is completed.
Am I the only one?
People have sent me 3 or 4 duplicate PMs because they hit the send button multiple times not knowing whether their 1st PM went through successfully. It never used to be like this
-
Easy now, guys. It's a formidable task keep a site like this maintained....but yes, it's need attending. I'd be willing to bet that a few of our forum members could qualify to fix the issues at hand. I could name a couple but don't want to impose on them.
xxx,

Oh seriously, if the worse thing that happens to you bunch of kvetching old yentas today is that the Forums are a touch sluggish then consider it a good day.

What I have gotten into the habit of doing is copying down my entries so that when it doesn't take on the first click and just disappears, I can just click on copy and re-post it. It's an extra step but way better than having to re-think a whole entry again.
-
Man is it worse tonight for some reason. I have to refresh my screen continuously.
-
We all might as well get use to it because nothing is every going to be fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone, just a little update - the IT guys are still working on figuring out the problem.
Thanks for your patience!

We're now onto TWO weeks. Who's the IT guy? Charlie Chaplin?
-
I'll have to wipe the smug grin off my face now. :D-> :( Saturday nite, I finally started having this problem too. Luckily, I've always copied my posts (ctrl-a, ctrl-c) because I can be long-winded and have lost too many timed-out forms in my life.
-
six attempts to post timed out...
-
Went on AMG07 came back and the place is like it was when we left can we PLEASE get some action on this site or get the problem fixed soon. It is a shame can not post pics. Takes forever to send or receive a PM. It is just a shame that things are the same as they were after we left.

Yepper. I just tried top send a bunch of PM replies and each time it ended up tiwh a lost connection. Gonna have to try to redo those later when I get home to my own computer.
Slow or not, good to be back with you people.

Well, you ARE posting from a bathroom stall at the public library today aren't you?

lost another post earlier today. it wasn't lenghty....but it was heartful.
sheesh!
no Andy, i did not copy before post button. forgot.

I'm not an IT guy - I might be geeky in some ways, but not in an IT kinda way. Sorry.
The official update:
The site's official IT guys are working on it.
Have any Brits here watched "The IT Crowd"? Just wondering.
Don't shoot the messanger, that's all I know, honest. They're working on it and we're to be patient.
Just the facts, ma'am! ;)

Our top tech guy has made some changes to our forums server and database, and wants to know if folks are still having problems. If a page fails to load and you get a "cannot display this page" error message from your browser, or the same thing happens when you try to post a message or send a private message, please post the following details in this thread:
1) The EXACT time the problem happened (i.e. 3:42pm EDT). If possible, please convert the time to our server's Eastern Daylight Time. You can convert the time from your time zone to New York City's using http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.
2) The URL of the page that didn't load -- cut & paste this from your browser's web address bar.
Thanks!
Peter
-
2nd attempt, as the first time it timed out posting this
Here ya go:
1) 3:34PM EDT & 3:42PM EDT
2) http://forums.poz.com/index.php?board=11.0 (trying to refresh by clicking 'refresh' and then again on the 'Off Topic' link on the left of the page
I've had time-outs (not the disciplinary kind ;) ) on the POZ® forums only both at home and at work, especially with sending PM's. This had been going on for weeks now. I've not had any problems with any other sites. Thanks.
David
-
It's 16:49 EDT and I'm having problems. It takes several tries to get to the main forum site http://forums.poz.com/index.php I am getting the error message. And it took me two tries to post my world map thread (off-topic). The first time just waited and waited and then failed.
-
... and again at 4:48PM EDT when trying to post in the Living With thread about dry skin (I forgot to copy the URL). I got a blank page with 'done' in the status bar at the bottom, but my post didn't go through the first two times.
David
-
Okay folks, we can hold off for now on the reports. Our tech guy has enough time-stamped reports to work with (I just sent him a detailed one myself).
He promises improved performance within the next few days.
I'll post another update once the fixes have been made.

This iw wierd;
At 8;10 Pm Eastern the Aidsmeds Forum Index listed the last post in Forum Gatherings as:
Last post on Today at 10:37:42 AM
in Re: Next year in Europe! by philly267
but when I went to the thread that he posted in there was a post made by NycJoe at :
by NycJoe listed for the same thread in colum to the right of the title heading.
Thought that was a little strange.

It comes and goes took me nearly 30 mins just to sign in and then you have to reload everytime you leave a section. ::)

I have been trying to enter the forums since 8:15 AM EST and just know was able to "get in" at 8:53 AM.
UGH!
Please don't write me up for being late! LOL
Dan
I was just working on a new thread with a long first post & lost everything because the site timed out on me @ 9:40 AM EST.
-
Indeed. It's definitely still not fixed. Also, the "show replies/unread" functions are often showing threads that I just read.
-
Maybe if everyone would take one day and not post anything in here and they see how slow it is that it might get fixed. I for one am getting tired of coming on this site and waiting to open up a thread and get timed out. This is the only place that is sluggish.
-
Well, your SQL server is still lousy...timed the forums home page this PM at 36 seconds to load the URL and no content and luckily several posts saved in Notepad before posting so not lost on hitting POST..your SQL server still lousy whatever the tech bods did.

Amen. I've been trying to reply for 30 minutes

To be fair, the "hang 5" (or 35, 36. 37...) is only intermittently annoying to me. Most times the forum is working fine for me. Why I think it's prob the SQL server (or the PHP/SQL server interfacing..same thing in my book) is the hang seems to happen on key I-need-to-query-the-database moments eg sending a PM, homepage, logging in, and posting. But it is kinda annoying, and now, well, part of the experience so to speak.
On the other hand, it makes me thing twice before posting, so maybe that's a good thing :D
-
i'm guessing the techies have put the whammy on this site- cuz it's zippin' right along for me right now.

they haven't confirmed the problem has been taken care of yet., but it does seem better than it was.
-
kinda sorta not really
-
I know I just made a post & the site timed out. I closed I.E.7 & reopened it. came back & it was listed.
Thanks Peter for sorting this out!
-
Hi Guys...
No, it's clearly not fixed yet. Peter and the IT guys were working on this full time today. Upon trying to upload a Forums software update, we started experiencing site-wide problems and experienced a server crash or two. We're going to try upgrading the software again this weekend, once traffic to the rest of AIDSmeds.com and POZ.com slows down.
Look guys, I'm asking for a little more patience until we've resolved this major problem. This hasn't been easy on anyone. We simply haven't had the resources to get to this until recently, and with the sluggishness -- and time outs -- getting worse as of recent, we've made this our top priority. Again, we're doing everything we can... and I'd appreciate it if some of you'd keep the caustic remarks to yourself.
Tim
-
Thanks Tim.
-
Thanks for the update Tim.
-
Okay, we've moved the database. Please let us know if you experience additional sluggishness.
Peter

Yahoo! this place is rockin again.

Be it known that I am now up to date on absolutely EVERYONE'S blogs. Everyone's...except Juan Carlos' cuz my spanish is rusty.
I wasn't expecting the forums back up until late tonight or tomorrow. I accidentally clicked while blog reading and- whoa! we're back up again.
Thanks Peter and techie types.

Apparently my other post DID go through even though it said connection lost. It double posted somehow.

So far it's very zippy... at least just browsing threads. I've sent one PM and it was fast too, with no time out.
-
Wow, thanks guys! The forums haven't seemed this quick in many weeks. It's like the difference between dial-up and broadband. I'm sure we all appreciate the work that it took to correct whatever the problem was.

I waited a bit before answering but it looks like the problem has been fixed. Thanks to Peter for spending his week-end on it.

I didn't know what you were all complaining about.

Thanks, everyone. So far, so good. It's 9am EDT right now, and I've just started building a huge search index for the forums -- we deleted the old one prior to moving the database to it's new home/server. A search index helps make forums searches more efficient.
Creating this index actually puts a heavy load on the new server, so over the next 45 minutes, I'd love to know if anyone experiences any sluggishness or pages failing to load.
Thanks!
Peter

9:47AM est. No problems thanks Peter. ;)

It was a tad sluggish earlier this morning, but at 11:15 it seems to be responding well.

Much thanks, this must have been a lot of work, it's kinda, well, now blistering would be the word - matt :)

Thanks so much, and I'm so glad that things are running smoothly again. It was terrible while you were offline. I actually had to go outside and do some yardwork. To top it off, I even took my new bicycle out for a ride. It was terrible out there in all that sunshine and fresh air. ;D
Thank goodness I'm back inside now, huddled in front of the warming rays from the EMF put out by my 3 monitors.
-mikie
(who remembered how to ride the bike; but didn't realize how outta shape he was. LOL)

ruh roh
I just got a "server unexpectedly dropped the connection" notice when sending a PM
-
At 13.21 London time (7:21 EST, I think), the server was sluggish and gave me this error message.
----------------------------------------
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
---------------------------------------
I also had trouble posting a message in the forum. The connection locked up.
-
The server still goes down for a few minutes* at approximately 8:15 EST. *(the longest I've noticed was ten minutes, though it's usually more like five)
This is not the same thing as the problem we've recently had - it's to do with the server rebooting. I always try to keep my eye on the time at this time of day so I can refrain from trying to post until we're back up and running again.
Ann
-
I got a lost post and a blank page again, very slow response about 5mn ago. Seems better now..

It seems better. Hey, hijack I guess but I have a question, what's the name of this forum's technology? many times it's been mentioned that the old forum ran on "Fusetalk" which I thought was quite similar to this current setup here. The reason why I'm asking is because I use another message board on Yahoo but it's sssooo different from here, as in "different: bad" ... It's not user friendly, there are no avatars, topics are never grouped (all posts come in chronologically)
I would like to know the name of our technology here so I can maybe propose it to that other board sometime in the future
Thanks
PS - That other board has nothing to do with HIV
-
Look at the bottom of this page, and click the little "Powered by SMF 1.1.4"
Peter

Thank you

I don't have near the problems on here as I do elsewhere. Besides, it's free, and better than anything else out there.
Please, Peter, don't let them change anything! I'm so sick of change. I just got a new computer at work with Office 07 and it sucks ass. What used to take me three or four clicks now takes at least ten and it doesn't give me the same results as Office 00.
OOops, I think this is for another thread. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this topic, but please, Peter, don't let them change my Forums!
Thanks!

Anybody else?

The HIV in my brain is allowing me to remember what I wanted to type or look at today. LOL
Sorry, I amuse me.

Matty the Damned has been having troubles with his ISP but he's noticed one curious thing.
When he uses Teh Fowumz on his own machine (powered by Fedora 7 Linux donchaknow) the time outs and other wotnotz that seem to drive you other people crazy are few and far between. Sure I get the odd:
"Open: index.php - save to file or open in application?"
dialogue box, but nothing too extreme.
When on the odd occasion I pop in on a Windows machine the whole experience is egregiously slow and torturous. No wonder so many of you people are such cranky old bitches.

I had happen once today, and that was during the last five minutes. Otherwise no issues.
Good think Macs work better than Linsucks.

I've been noticing it for the past few days.
