nice pics Ann!
do you live in the village in the second picture?
looks like a beautiful place to live...
at least in the summer. :)
I would imagine it gets pretty cold, raw, and windy.

Yes, the first three photos are of Peel Castle and Peel, where I live. I used to live right down in the tip of the triangle by the harbour/beach/castle area, but I moved further up into town a few years ago. It's a beautiful island and I feel very fortunate to live here.

But yes, the winters can be cold, rainy and blustery. We don't get much snow, although this past March we got one of the worst snowstorms since records began. It was very unfortunate that it came in the middle of lambing season and many sheep and lambs were killed, and some ewes who were saved later aborted due to stress. Many calves were lost too. I didn't post about it in the weather thread because it was all just too sad.

You can find photos of it here.

It's currently the last day of this year's TT races - Senior Race Day - which is also a national holiday (aka Bank Holiday). The TT website has a lot of videos taken from on-board cameras, and you pretty much get a tour of the island, albeit a faaaast moving one! http://www.iomtt.com/

Jeepers!
What a snowstorm!
So sad to see the animals suffering.

Took the "tour" and felt a bit queasyweasy.
The vistas are breathtaking but for a place called the Isle of Man, well, it kinda looks like an Isle of Sheep.
(this coming from someone living in Connecticut. land of beauty and boredom.)

Do people get into the water on that beach?
Brrrrrrrr.....

A lovely island and lovely seals- I have to visit them in the future. It has to be a great experience and challenge to live there permanently. I can't wait to read more stories from Ann.

It is rare to capture the moment a relationship ended.  A man attaches a ghost puppet to the TV, in order to scare his sleeping girlfriend.  It is inspired by the ghost/zombie coming out of the TV in the movie, "The Ring."  I now want to try this.  However, I worry my TV will get smashed.

I'm glad that guy isn't one of my mates. Did you read his blurb at the bottom of the video? He's one of those people who thinks slipping a person laxatives is a "prank". As someone who suffers from chronic diarrhea, I do NOT think it's funny in the least. I didn't before I had this problem either.

Someone in my high school played a similar "prank" on a heavy-set kid, replacing a kit-kat bar with an ex-lax bar. The kid he did it to ended up so sick (and covered in shit at school) that he had to be taken to the ER. NOT FUNNY.

Eh, maybe I just need a sense of humour transplant this morning. The ghost prank wasn't too bad - and allegedly she saw the funny side - but anyone who slips someone else laxatives has got a mean streak a mile wide. That's not a prank, it's abuse.

Ok I'll shut up now.  :-X

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQhMllQ-ODw

I am one of the few people who saw this and felt like he came off as a condescending bitchy prick (also, i get bings on my gaydar.....) from the get go. Its like he was ready to perform "taking offense" to her questions, from the get go. Its the whole theatre of "offense".  Since he is a "pro-fess-or" with a "p.h.d." in "his...tor...y" blah blah blah shouldn't he be in "instruct" mode - couldn't he have responded friendly enough while correcting her?  There was no elegance to it.

Also the media reports it just like the YouTube clip:  "Renowned academic and author Reza Aslan is forced to respond to a barrage of Islamophobic attacks during an interview with Fox News host Lauren Green."

I don't find her question a "barrage" nor "attacks".  Granted, she's asking the dumb questions she expects her Fox audience wants asked.  Big deal.  He came ready to take offense with this embarrassing hissy fit.  I call publicity stunt.  He was on Maher the other day and he seems like he has some kind of chip on his shoulder.

I thought her whole approach, from the get go to the interview was idiotic. No wonder why he had the reaction he did. His analogy was poor though in trying to get her on track. I find it refreshing that he took her to task . I hate to see Fox News get away with this kind of "reporting".
And yes, the gaydar was binging.

"Classic Albums" series.
Its really quite good.
is this available in your country?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoo5x85C3X8

I watched
Nirvana - Nevermind
Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Lennon - Plastic Ono Band

The one I knew the least about was Lennon and his whole solo career so it was the most interesting video, even if its not my favorite music, the artistic story and historical context was fascinating.

This is great! Very witty and quite contrarian.  A bunch of leftists and marxists burst any nostalgic hazy myths one might have about the 60's counterculture, social movements, etc etc.

Nazi Underworld Docu Series
Hitler's Architect - Albert Speer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRk8PI25RPQ
I watched this today. And look, someone uploaded it to Youtube.
It's all about how he was a "canny survivor" who constructed a false history for himself as the "Good Nazi".
Now we know all the details of what an evil criminal he was...

I didn't know he became Minister of Armaments and War Production... The documentary says Hitler had picked him as his successor.

The Berlin plan:

The German Pavilion at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris. This is opposite the Soviet Pavilion.  When he saw the aggressive design of the Russians, Speer designed it to be higher and have a menacing Eagle staring down on the Russians.

Very moving.

Very good.  I have a teeny-tiny amount of OCD.  I think many of us do.  Silverware has to be in the drawer, from biggest to smallest.  Things in the fridge need to have labels facing forward, etc, etc.  But, I have always felt how awful it must be, to have a really severe case-- where it controls everything you do and think.  It is good he can channel it into art.

Not sure if there are other Knots Landing fans here, like I am.  A friend sent this to me.  It appears to be their 200th show celebration.  It seems real.  The voice-over guy is the same guy, who did the voice overs, promoting the show.  But, he does the 200 show summary in satire, making fun of the story lines.  It is funny, especially if you watched and get it.  So, I think this actually aired.  But, I doubt the out takes at the end were ever shown.  If they were, they were bleeped.  I don't think CBS allowed all the "fucks."

I'm missing nite clubbing in the 80's when some clever vj would always have some fab vintage footage on the monitors.

I'm very saddened to hear Linda Ronstadt has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and will not sing again. I've always loved her voice.

I want a Bat Mitzvah.  Liberace would be impressed.  Little Sam gets dancers and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders to perform in a huge production number.  Sam comes down from the ceiling in a chandelier.  I guess his parents have some dough.  No, that is not a Jewish joke.  He says he can't wait to plan his wedding.  I am just assuming there will be two grooms.  That could lead to a huge fight on the dance numbers.

I guess I missed the "A-Team" episode, where Boy George guest starred.  I saw this on The Daily Show.  It is one of the funniest promos I've ever seen.  Boy George and George Peppard doing the promo.  I wonder what sticky situation they got into?

I have watched the TV soap Y&R (Young and the Restless) for over 35 years.

This parody, especially given Jeanne Cooper's (Mrs. C.) death this year, is funny:

Princes Soraya, the "Princess of Sorrow"
The Shah of Iran's first wife was a beautiful Egyptian, daughter of the King at the time. She produced only a daughter and hated Iran. For his next wife, the court sought out Soraya, half German, half persian, from a rival aristocratic line to the Pahlavi's.  Nevertheless, the shah fell in love with the beautiful girl, who grew up in Germany, Persia, and Swiss Boarding Schools.  Unfortunately, she was infertile...  No treatments could reverse the course. The Shah was very much in love with her but was obliged to produce a male heir. They discussed and rejected him taking a second wife.  Finally, they divorced.  Soraya was awared the title of Imperial Princess for life and a diplomatic passport. She moved through jet set society and tried, in the 60s to be an actress.  Antonioni made a film with her, the Shah had his secret service buy every print in existence and destroy them.  It was supposed to be a pretty lousy film.
There are some surviving clips. real jet set schlocky nonsense:
