Is it that time already?
« on: April 28, 2011, 10:18:18 am »
I realized the other day my last labs were done in early November.

I guess its time to do them again. Besides, I have become concerned about the Isentress.

From what an HIV specialists in Albuquerque tells me, missing just a dose or two could initiate resistance.

I, being a silly human, have missed a couple of doses.

So, I guess it couldn't hurt to get poked again.

But, I will also have the dreaded lipids checked, and probably blood glucose, RPR, etc., and I should probably ask for a PPD, since there is some discussion for those of us liiving in a third-world country (specialists words, not mine) to be checked annually because of the prevalence here.

I dread the lipid results. I just know they are not going to be good.

HUGS,

Mark

Mark,

I am new to New Mexico from No CA.

I am currently in Santa Fé but doing my research of med providers and AIDS services in ABQ. Seems like we have only one clinic up here and the entire HIV community appears to be invisible or disjointed. I am looking to join social and volunteer work in our HIV community. I already contacted NMAS for appointment. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? I am due for new labs next month and I feel that I´d like to get a new doctor or clinic. I truly miss the connection I had with my prev doctor of over 10 yrs.

Santa Fé has a large gay men population and yet it can be very isolating when it comes to HIV talk.

Hello Sfteve  I cannot speak for Santa Fé as I have lived in ABQ for the last 9 yrs. I'm a transplant form the S.F. Bay Area and Northern Ca area's, when I 1st moved here to NM back in 2001, I was in total Culture-SHOCK for about 5 or 6 yrs. but, I've gotten used to ABQ, this is a GREAT PLACE to live, and I wouldn't trade it for anything..

Your local ASO up there is Santa Fé is probably a good place to start, I also miss the strong connections I no longer have w/ the HIV community where I use to live, I wish you the best of luck in whatever you wanna do here in New Mexico, as far as I know, Capt. Carl & aztecan  is are the only people that I know of
in AMG forums, ( there are a whole host of other locals who do not post in here) well know I know you
nice to meet you Sfteve,  my name is Dennis  ;)

If you use enough lube, it shouldn't hurt... ;)

Steve- Welcome to Nuevo Mexico!!
Santa Fe has some of the best HIV docs in the state from what I  understand, but I prefer to get my health services in Albuquerque. It just seems to be more complete there. NMAS is a GREAT ASO! They are very helpful and have excellent caseworkers.  NMAS also shares a bulding with the Truman Street Clinic, so that your case manager and your doctor are under one roof, and communication between them is most excellent. Definitely give them a shot, I'm sure you will be pleased.

Thank you guys, I talked to NMAS today for appt next week. I get the feeling that lots of people find Albuquerque more complete or resourceful than Santa Fé. I really like here, I just don´t know many people, let alone fellow POZ.

Guys, again, thank you. I find this forum very useful and everyone is like family.

HUGS,

I hear you Mark .  Wishing you the best for those results.  I was at the VA, a few weeks back and asked the doctor, why a metabolic panel had not been done Since last July 21st,10.

I don't think that he realized that, and thought that I was having those metabolic panel done through the VA primary.  I believe he thought that the VA primary care was ordering them.  I was getting these l tests done every 3 months.

This is the only problem I am having with the VA.  I have to follow through.

I mentioned to the him, that I believe I should have the lipid panel, done every 3 months, considering my history,  with cholesterol shortly after starting on meds back in 2003.

So,...  He's going to order these tests, along with the the others in June. hopefully from that point on, it will be every 3 months.

On my last cholesterol tests back on July 21st ,10

The results were :

chol: 195

TRIG: 117

HDLC; 54

TC/HDLC:  118

But I am also concerned, that I am not in that range anymore. I am not sure,  that just because I dropped below 200, that someone determined that, I didn't need these tests as frequently, but I say I need them every 3 months, or until I really know that I am stable.

Good Luck Mark-------Ray

Mark,
Damn dude I know how you detest those lipid tests. Hang in there and this positive. I didn't realize your on the 6 month poke plan??? I'm every 4 months.

I can't tell you how many doses I have missed. I am also on Isentress. My Dr has not mentioned any resistance trouble. Should I ask for a special test for that?  My viral load is still undetectable, even after more missed doses than I care to admit here in public??? :-\ :-\ :-[ ::) :o
Maybe I'll send you a pm soon!

Good luck with the lipids this time around.

Mark

I also have been taking Isentress (Raltegravir) for a number of years now.  My viral load has remained undetectable, and my latest cd'4's have been the high'st ever.  As for the number of pills I've missed, at least one or two, per month, on average.  Sometimes I forget, or just sleep in.  To be honest, occasionally, I have gone on a half day strike, just to feel normal for a half day.  But I don't take it further than that.  I don't advocate it for others either.

Just say'n, I don't think it too big a problem, one or two tabs.   Good luck with your meds Mark.

Bertram.

Hi Mark,

Just calling in with a hope that the pre testing anxiety horrors behave themselves , remember you got them lipids in order before, as to the Isentress I am on it to and also human, still undetectable and have the highest cd4 for at least ten years.

During a stay in Hos I for a variety off reasons did not get the Isentress and the Ritonavir for 4 days so will you please give yourself a big hug like you give all off us and go get poked.

lots off love Mark
