Hello there. First let me say that I've read thoroughly some posts by Andy, Ann, Rod and many others and I should not be starting a thread of my own since there are already so many even so I hope some of you can assess my risk.

I am a bisexual guy and I abstain from random sexual encounters as much as possible and when it happens I always wear protection. I had not had any sexual encounters in almost 4 months and a week ago I had one with a guy. I had my annual check up in december.

What worries me is that I gave him unprotected oral for no more then a minute. Afterwards I insisted on a condom and he put one on. No ejaculation happened in my mouth. During the encounter i had a cold and sore throat...would this increase my risk? I am really worried and I need some insight into my situation. My mouth is pretty healthy and no cuts or bruises were present (to my knowledge).

Few days after the encounter i asked if he gets checked regularly and he says that he is negative...though that is not enough for me. Should I stop googling and researching this so in depth? I've read some of Ann's posts in which she states that there have been various studies done in which hundreds of couples in which one is poz and the other neg and engaged in unprotected oral...not one was infected. That relieves me a lot.

Well I hope you guys can help me. My birthday is in about a week and I rather not be debating this in my mind

As I am sure you are aware, having read through the forums, nothing in the events you describe put you at risk for HIV infection.

There have been no fewer than three long term studies of serodiscordant couples (where one partner is positive and one is negative) that lasted three, five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative anal and vaginal sex, but chose not to use barrier protection for oral sex of any kind. At the end of these studies, not a single person seroconverted due to oral activity. Not one.

There was no risk in the oral experience you describe. Please know that we would not say this if there was a caveat for colds or sore throats or other circumstances.

You had no risk, and do not need to test over this situation as described.

I absolutely do. I think it would be more than reasonable for you to move on without more anxiety. You are doing the right thing to protect yourself, and I hope you keep up the good work.

Well jk I will do just that.

It's just the internet is full of conflicting information and probably outdated information, I have read maybe too much into this situation. I have noticed that medhelp and this board maintain that oral is basically no risk and that is very convincing.
