Diagnosed with AIDS 3 years ago and still here
« on: October 22, 2009, 10:01:17 pm »
Hi all, I felt like posting this because I want to give some hope out there. My name is Jose and I was diagnosed with full blown AIDS 3 years ago- of all days - Halloween! I was hospitalized with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) and Thrush, CD4 was 21 and Viral load over 800,000. I was hospitalized for over 3 weeks and was in real bad shape but I survived. The funny thing I never looked sick, never lost weight, never had that sunken face look - nothing but I was sick as hell. I remained the stocky guy I always was - not even with AIDS did I lose weight LOL!
Fast forward to now, I work a full time job and planning to finish school. I have my days of really bad fatigue then some bouts with depression as well - not an easy road but you go on. I am blessed to have a wonderful family and friends. I also possess a wacky sense of humor and a stubbornness to face obstacles and jump over them. The thing is you must go on and not to wallow in your illness. I joke about my diagnosis all the time and I even call myself "nuclear." LOL!

Welcome JC.  How long have you been positive?

Edited to add:  This thread started out in the "LTS'ers" forum, hence me asking how long JC's been positive.

I am so glad that you are doing well-this disease can create an illusion. I was diagnosed with full blown AIDS 5 years and I too didn't look ill as I was the epitome of health. One thing that I have learned is that often the healthiest looking can be the most ill-strange! Take care of yourself Live, love, laugh!!

Didn't you know?  AIDS is serious business. . . just like the internet is.   ;)

Good to see that you're doing well and moving on.
