She'd have turned 100 today.

Like millions of others, I (still) Love Lucy.

God that show was funny (and for me still is!).

No surprise coming from Ethel after all  ;)

I grew up with that show, my mother would have it on our old Magnavox black and white TV that took four men to carry into the apartment.  They have Lucy marathons on cable today and though I haven't watched much lately my dentist's nurse had it on today and we laughed over the trips to California and Europe and the famous candy conveyor belt scene and the drinking of that Vita Veggie product.

It was said they didn't want to hire William Frawley (Fred) because they were concerned about his drinking and Lucy and Desi weren't sure about Vivian Vance for Ethel because believe it or not they didn't think she looked old enough.  Vivian had to convince Lucy she would get frumpy enough- and she certainly did!

Thanks for the memories RAB.

Jody :)

She was one of a kind! No one has ever come close to her style, and probably never will. Her show is timeless, even the youngsters today are loving it.

I know she was born in the early 20th century in Jamestown, NY., right smack in the middle of the snow belt that is upstate NY in the winter.  They even had a museum for her in that town.  Her family however moved to Montana when she was a small child and she was raised out west.  Her career spanned playing all sorts of dramatic rolls, a gun moll and other parts, movies with Bob Hope, never a very well known actress until her own TV show.  That was an early hugely popular show with the first generation of TV viewers in history.  Desi Arnaz was shrewd enough to take syndication monies, unheard of at the time, instead of a little more money up front.

Lucille Ball was once interviewed and I remember her saying that when she was trying to find herself in a show biz career she changed names a few times and was once Diane Belmont of all things, and she got the name while driving past the Belmont race track here in New York.  I chuckled when I read that.

Late in her life she also spoke out and helped advocate in the battle against AIDS and the stigma attached to living with AIDS and we can all be grateful to her for that contribution from this grand dame.

So WE LUV LUCY - Big heart  :D

I Love Lucy !  :-*

I still enjoy watching, even though I've seen each episode MANY times.

My favorite is "The Operetta", where Ethel plays "Lilly of the Valley" and Lucy is the "Gypsy Queen"....they start taking the props and costumes away before the play is finished....
