What's worst for your liver?
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:54:43 pm »
Alot of meds are known to cause liver damage when you use them for a long period of time. Some people develop liver failure over many many years of med use and some people simply don't have any serious issues. I have an uncle who has been an alchoholic since the age of 19 and he is now 61. Since I was born in 1980 he has drank every single day of his life and even more during a sporting event and celebrations. He has on occasion taken a week break and at most a month break every 5 years or so. My aunt always fears that his liver will fail any day now and to her surprise the doctor tells him that his liver is of a 30 year old man. huh? Maybe he was born with a good liver. You may think that he doesn't drink much but TRUST me, Tequila and Vodka taste like water to him. He is on disability because he suffered a car accident in 1982 and since then has dedicated himself to being a drunk. So my question is, are the meds more toxic than alcohol?

Some meds are, some aren't. Toxic liver by alcohol haven't seen that many, but Esophageal varices due to alcohol I've seen hundreds. They are both killers. Esophageal varices is the most noticeable disease caused by alcohol. It's something you won't ever forget if you have ever witnessed it. Esophageal varices is hemorrhage of the esophagus and the person just bleeds out.

Alcohol is worse by far.  In excess of course.  Not only is it hepatotoxic, it's toxic to your personality and your being in general.
