Title: am i at risk of hiv?
Post by: tiredofpain55 on December 30, 2012, 09:57:01 am
hi, i'm circumcised 24 yo male
2 months ago i had protected genital sex with unprotected oral sex with a girl that i met in the internet, she had active coldsore on her lip. i didn't know that time that it is caused by herpes ..

i got Urethral infection with conjunctivitis after two weeks ( the doctor didn't know what bacteria or virus is causing this) there was no blisters or any clear signs of herpes, i didn't have cold sore or anything just tingling pain and burning during urination

after 1 week and half of antibiotic course i started to feel better

the girl now suffers from recurrent fever for almost 1 month and 20 days and she was diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection due to mycoplasma bacteria, with normal chest x-ray, i also remember on the next day after sex, we were together and she bleed from the position of he cold sore, it means that it bursted.

i did test for HAV HBV HCV HEV , and all came out negative
yesterday after 65 days of possible exposure i made an Elisa antibody hiv test and it came out negative,  they don't have rna, dna pcr test in where i'm living at now (China) ..

1- is that result enough, because i read on the internet that i should wait for 3 months to 6 months to make sure, i read about false negatives in first two months too i'm just sooo worried???

2- is there a risk of getting hiv from oral sex specially the fact that she was carrying STD on her mouth (cold sore) and my infection. and that she is having recurrent fever now????

3-isn't it possible that she had cuts or canker sores in her mouth that might cause blood to be in saliva?

can i go back to my wife, or wait for another 4 weeks to make sure, i can't explain to my wife, i moved to another city and i can't explain to her why i can't get back to her during these days. ??

PLEASE HELP , please suggest me how long more should i wait

You never had an HIV exposure.

tired,

You have not had a risk for hiv infection.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Other STIs that may be present orally do not make a difference.

As for blood in the mouth, unless you're in the habit of repeatedly punching a person in the mouth before they blow you, then there could not possibly be enough blood present to cause an hiv concern.

You do not need further hiv testing at this time. You do NOT have hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

thank you so much for your quick reply. i appreciate that, this have calmed me down some how.

but why is that when i research on the internet they all talk about presence of risk in oral sex, some say the risk increase if she has STD infections in her mouth. that's whats making me worried the most as i have done alot of researches since i got the urethral infection....

i saw some of your posts saying that hiv is not a risk outisde the body i.e fingering kissing, etc, but isn't oral sex include inside the body???

does the test i made some how conclusive 65 days antibody test.

are you saying that i should go back to my wife and forget about this incidence and that i didn't totally have any risk????????

give me this final answer ^_^

THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Re-read what Ann has said to you. Bottom line: you were not at risk for HIV in this incident. Doubts and fears and GUILT are not facts.

Do yourself a big favor and stop searching the net for more "information." You did not have a risk and scouring the net will only feed your fears and all to no good purpose.

Stop making drama and get on with your life. There is no need for testing. This is all about guilt over having strayed. You did what you did. Now you need to let it go and get on with your life. Really.

thanks , Rapid rod, Ann and Andy velez for the quick reply, your answers relieved me alot, i just have some thoughts that makes me think that maybe you didn't get my point/situation exactly. so i will just make it clear here.

here is what i think my situation makes it different from others!!

i think my situation is quite different from most of people who have posted about oral sex risk here, the fact is that i got an STD from this, the doctor thought it's chlamydia  and other doctor said it's not chlamydia since there was no clear discharge from penis so it's NGU urethral infection.
since she has an STD , she must have been very active and might have some other infections too
isn't that supposed cause a co infection??? that's what makes me worried the most

and i'm wondering what if my penis touched on the canker sore, or directly on a cut that is in her mouth before it mixed with the saliva, wont that cause a risk???????

plus i have pharyngitis more than once , i could touch with my tongue the sores, and the lymphoid on my throat is larger, went to the doctor and gave me antibiotics, i didn't buy them as pharmacy was closed that time  and it just went away after two days  again it came back now
it goes for a day and comes back the other day,

PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIZE FOR ASKING TOO MANY QUESTIONS. i promise wont ask again , just clarify to me that you got my point and that my situation is still a no risk situation
thank you soo much again and again

The most important fact in your story is that you had protected intercourse. Sexually only unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse are confirmed risks for transmitting HIV.

Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV if it is present.

You are caught up in fears and doubts which are having your mind go cuckoo about this when you did not have a real risk for HIV.

Yes, we got all the details. Yours was not an HIV risk situation. Period.
