The other night i was on manhunt and this guy said "i like your profile its very honest and upfront, im not looking for sex but would like to be your friend", so i say "sure but you already know me". I had my face pictures locked and have another screename than what i normally use. So he wants to know who i am and i told him, he then asked me how long i have known and i also told him. A few months ago i made out with him at a club, so then his tone changed. He said i am scum of the earth because i made out with him, didnt call him back, and that he now has to get an HIV test because he thinks i might have infected him. I politely asked him "what the fuck" was he talking about and he responded that i should have told him before making out with him because if i had a cut in my mouth and so did he then i could have infected him. He said that i should be more responsible and not kiss anyone before disclosing. I informed him that my mouth/gums are in impeccable condition because i have good oral hygene and that even if it wasnt that he didnt have to worry about that. He was still upset with me after i educated him on the situation so i then sent him to hell and told him not to bother being my friend because not only is he judgmental he is also not well informed and not willing to accept factual information...

anyways i just felt like bitching about other people ignorance....

I'm sure everyone agrees that making out is not a high risk activity lol

It's astounding how many people do not have the first clue about hiv and would rather believe in myth than learn the facts.

I am not defending him and I have experienced similar paranoia and ignorance, such as "HIV can penetrate condoms..." but I wonder if it is was a good survival tactic to rely on fear as opposed to thought and study, something that perhaps has come later in evolution.

Who is thinking we should get a really nice island and make our own positive nation.

I am sure that many people like the one puertorico mentioned would like us to have our own AIDS Colony. Like that stupid idiot Sarah Silverman who keeps making the AIDS jokes. Would she be able to ridicule other groups as effectively? Her latest one goes something like:I know that one day we will be able to put a man with AIDS on the moon, and then we will be able to put everyone with AIDS on the moon. I do not care what her purpose is when she makes this joke. To me it just perpetuates the mentality that we are to be feared and less than human, especially when she uses it as a snippet to promote her show. I hate AIDS bigots, even though I know it is wrong to hate.

Its very sad just how uneducated a lot people still are in the world. I had a guy who I was sharing a beer with get really pissed off when I disclosed. He curtly said, "thanks for honesty, but now it a bit late don't ya think" as he whisked his man bag away in the night.

As for that Sarah Silverman (hand on hip and shaking finger), I swear I would literally kick her in the ass if I had the chance. I've wasted seconds of my precious life watching her jive until I was revived my moment of stupidity.

I am amazed that people are surprised by the guy's response. Other than the fact that he was totally incorrect in the ability to get infected from a kiss. He probably felt like he had been deceived and lied to and so he just lashed out in anger.

I have encountered people who use multiple identities on web sites. Maybe I am wrong but it makes me feel like they are trying to deceive other people. I met one guy six times on the same web site and confronted him about it. He wanted to know how I knew. I told him you can pretend to be someone else but most people can't or don't think about how they respond or their style of writing. We are creatures of habit.

I for one, don't use multiple ads under different names. It would just take up too much time trying to remember what I said from one to the other.

To each his own on this but I feel that the majority of people would be upset and suspicious of people who use multiple identities on the same site.

I guess the amazement comes from a) this guys total ignorance of how HIV is transmitted and b) the fact that if he's so damn sensitive about catching diseases, WTF is he doing slagging around on the internet and snogging people in clubs? At the end of the day, yes, HIV+ people should disclose but if you want to stay negative - inform yourself and behave yourself.

There's this kind of fascism, esp. with gay men, that disease and imperfection have to be coralled off and separate. Neggies are constantly looking at us, and stigmatising our behaviour to make them feel better and safer about their own. It's human nature, and it's certainly easier than changing the way you act.

I remember reading about a slogan at the beginning of the epidemic: Limit Your Partners. Know Their Names. It's not rocket science - and it's definately where I slipped up, rather than some failure of saf(er) sex.

Might I suggest that much of this post is doing exactly the same thing that many pozzies accuse negative people of doing? The fact that this guy was ignorant on transmission routes, makes him ignorant, not stupid. His ignorance was plain based on his responses, calling him stupid is a baseless judgment and I see it as serving no good purpose.

When I encounter ignorance, I try and educate the person, but if they are off the wall, then that is their issue and not mine. If we want the world to stop fearing us, then we also have to stop slamming negative people, when they do foolish things, because how does any of this further our goal of general acceptance???

Ignorance = lack of knowledge.
Stupid = clinging to one's ignorance and refusing to learn.

Not only that, he wants Puertorican to do things (disclose before kissing, tell guys he's kissed they should be tested) based on his amazing discovery of the previously unknown kissing-transmitted variant of HIV.

Total agreement here---I've had ignorant responses and comments before, and I do think it's a good idea not to fly off the handle and respond emotionally. People are scared (even if there is no reason) and they'll react defensively. When reassured, people generally return the favor and at least start a thought process where they don't think we should all be sent to an island or sprayed with Lysol while out in public.

My tack changes when people ignore my efforts and start demanding that I spray myself with Lysol or accept banishment to an island, I get really pissy. If they want to wallow in ignorance I have no control over that, I can't force them to use their brains or accept me. But it's just damn egotistical to think that they have the right to flit about and issue stupid orders because they're too lazy to think. I declare open season on those folks and fire away. If we don't resist them actively, we will be living in leper colonies. Fear is contagious, and these are the types in the front of lynch mobs.

Why the hatred of Sarah Silverman? She is an incredible comic. She's not for everyone. You can never take her out of context, she's not a knock-knock short joke performer. She is amazing, by the time you are over your shock of what she has just said, you get it and then she hits you with another amazing concept. She is in the same vein as Lenny Bruce, genius, just not for everyone. I laughed all the way thru her put an AIDS man on the moon. You must understand the character that she plays. I'll quit defending, and just leave it that she is one of my favorite writers/performers/comics.

sorry that had happened. it sucks people are out there like that. you can call it ignorance, which it is probably partly....and also partly just someone who is miserable and trying to bring you down to their level. i guess we're just left to grow stronger. i dont know what else to think about it. some people just done have heart, and they have that stigma in their heads about how or what you have to be to get HIV. so fuck them, they arent worth it. . . i know it doesnt make the experience any better, and it is easy to say fuck 'em, but it has to do something good for our inner-character.

also, sarah silverman...i LOVE her! she's pretty controversial, yeah. she is like that with any kind of 'difference' out there. i did watch her show that was talked about...and if you catch it you can see she is just being completely ignorant and playing a role in how our society tends to deal with such issues, with fear, gagging , and profit...over love and compassion. i guess i dont mind it much, it makes me feel more normal than some leper.

What always strikes me as odd is how eager and willing many men in online chat/hook up sites are to jump into bed with anyone who says he's negative. People can say anything they want - many don't know or are basing their status off a test that was performed months or even years ago. But, tell them that you're poz and they won't go near you with a 10 foot pole.

What I tell my negative friends, if you want to stay that way sleep with everyone as if he just told you he's poz. Take those type of precautions. Asking someone his status and hoping that he's telling the truth - is probably the fastest way of getting infected.

I was seeing a nice guy when i found out i was positive, told him, he got tested and was fine...but then he wouldn't let me kiss him/pda/etc...at the time i felt he might be right...so we break up, and then i learn months later that while he was uncomfortable to kiss me, he had no problem doing crystal meth with complete strangers and have orgies...i WANT to think he was protecting ME from something he might give me, but i can't quit spin it that way...argh, just argh

anyone agree that a dog, ferret or llama would make a better partner? i'm thinking so...
