Stressed after high risk exposure and a negative 4th gen test result

Hi all , hope this finds you well

I’m a straight 29 years old male from nyc ,
 
October 16th , 2020 while abroad , had an unprotected sexual encounter with a girl ( unknown status ) , unprotected vaginal and oral sex ( I even went down on her )  . I was stupid while drunk , I can’t get over this traumatic act till now , days after woke up in sweats and feeling weird .

October 26 , back to the us , got blood test and full std screening , results back in October 29 : herpes simplex 1 positive , Gonoreha positive and as expected hiv negative ( 10 days after exposure )
Started treatment for gonoreha ( pills + injection ) .

December 7th 2020 : 7 weeks later woke up with : tonsillitis , swollen lymph nodes all over , mouth ulcers , fatigue , back pain , night sweats , white tongue .
I said that’s it I’m seroconverting , went for testing
full panel std and strepthroat culture
Results after 3 days
hiv negative ( 4th gen test ) , hep c b negative , chlamydia negative , strepthroat negative , Gonoreha negative . I was surprised !!!

still had symptoms as fatigue , mouth ulcers every single day   

February 4 , 2021 : I did an oraquick test at 105 days came back negative

February 7 , 2021 : 4th generation hiv test at 110 days that came back negative also

I still experience some symptoms + weight loss around 8 pounds and can’t sleep at night due to anxiety and stress

Still don’t know how to react , this is making me go crazy and mad And it’s taking a toll on my health .

I never had such symptoms or aches before this encounter so it all seems weird to me right now ( I’m not paranoid but this is weird ) I’m not happy saying  this but I had unprotected sex before but didn’t have such symptoms .


what’s the solution here and are the results conclusive or still need to wait due to the high risk ?

Hi,

Read your post three times, you had condomless intercourse and have conclusively tested HIV negative over this incident. This result is not going to change unless you have had more recent potential exposures.

Sorry to hear that you have been feeling unwell and I hope you feel better soon, work with your doctor to treat whatever it is.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection going forward

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

even in European forums ( French especially )

Do you think this is related to people focusing on hiv and neglecting other possible infections ?

I’m about to schedule An appointment with an Infectious disease doctor  which may be better than a regular doctor !

What do you think ?

It's not weird.

We have endless amounts of people focusing on unrelated symptoms or irrelevant issues for various reasons including phobias, guit, shame, self judgement and denial etc.

It's not relavent though to you.

You did not aquire HIV from this encounter that much is certain and none of the symptoms mentioned are HIV related.

Keep working with your doctor to diagnosis what is making you feel unwell.

If you want to avoid HIV in the future, start using condoms for any intercourse, consider taking to your health care provider about Prep and test out of standard routine yearly for STI and HIV.
