Title: Why radiated blood?

How come when Mim needed / needs a blood transfusion, we have to wait for radiated blood?  How do they radiate it?

I think you mean irradiation.  Here's a nice explanation I found online:

Yep, that's it Peter, irradiated blood.  It must take a good bit of time to do it.  Usually we have to wait quite a while and they will only allow her to have blood that is her type (no "universal" donor blood-type).  Then, we have to wait for it to be "cooked".  That's a great site, by the way, and does an excellent job explaining the process.  Gotta love Pac-man eating blood cells.
