Hello all! I was wondering if anyone can help me with this. About two weeks ago I hooked up with a friend of mine who claims to be HIV-. Firstly I performed oral sex on him for about 15 to 20 minutes (rough estimate) with no ejaculation, but precum. He also rubbed his penis head against my anus with precum (not sure if any went inside). I was wondering, can I catch HIV if I gave oral sex while I have gingivitis and could I also catch anything by him rubbing his penis against my anus while he had precum on the head of the penis?

No you cannot contract HIV in that manner.

Thanks for the reply! So I should stop worrying? I cannot contact HIV through both events I described?

Exactly. Saliva contains over a dozen identified elements which render HIV inert. In addition, the receptive cells which HIV requires to transmit it's RNA are not found in any abundance in the oral cavity.

I'm still very paranoid, though. I don't want to test because I'm TERRIFIED at what the results will be. I was fine once I posted the topic but now my mind is just racing. :/

I am very sorry that you are anxious. However, it is rather important for any sexually active person who is not in a mutually monogamous relationship to get a full STD panel, including an HIV test, at least twice a year.

You said your friend claims to be HIV negative. Until you get regularly tested, you are asking for the same leap of faith that you are (rightfully) unable to give your friend. ALWAYS assume your sexual partner is HIV positive until you are both in a mutually monogamous relationship and test together.

That's the responsible thing to do, fear or no fear.
