Non-profit seeks short-term freelancer for blogger/communications position

NON-PROFIT SEEKS SHORT-TERM FREELANCER FOR BLOGGER/COMMUNICATIONS POSITION

Company: Housing Works

Position dates: Monday, October 31 to approximately Friday, December 22

Schedule: 3 days/week

Location: 594 Broadway (Soho), Manhattan

Pay: Based on experience

Job description: Freelancer will write blog posts about AIDS advocacy issues in New York City, New York State, nationally and internationally, for Housing Works’ blog, the AIDS Issues Update, (www.housingworks.org/advocate<http://www.housingworks.org/advocate>). Blog posts include short, straight news items; short news features; action alerts; reposts; and profiles of people living with HIV/AIDS.  Freelancer will also assist with general communications responsibilities, such as writing press releases and media advisories, and pitching to the press about Housing Works advocacy campaigns.

Requirements:


  *   Top-notch news writing skills a must, as well as top-notch communication skills.
  *   Ability to write on deadline.
  *   Fluency with social media such us Facebook and Twitter.
  *   Knowledge of New York City media.
  *   Familiarity with housing, health care and politics, especially as they relate to HIV/AIDS, is a strong plus.
  *   Photography and/or video experience are a strong plus.
