Title: Question about female to female transmission
Post by: ilona017 on December 22, 2006, 01:20:58 pm
Hello, I'm sorry to be a bother but I was wondering about something and couldn't find any information about it anywhere online. Can anyone tell me what risk there is in a woman passing HIV onto another woman? Also do you think women should use protection? With other women I mean thought I'm not sure how that works.  ??? I've read over on webMD that there are a small number of cases of women passing it onto other women that were thought to be associated with blood in kissing (??) so I'm wondering what others think of this.
Just for the record, I haven't had a sexual encounter just yet. I was just wondering if women need as much protection with other women as they do with men.
Thank you for any info. I really appreciate it! And I'm sorry if I sound stupid. :D

Women don't pass HIV amongst each other, unless you share works. Do you need protection no. Can you get oral std's? Yes, it's possible. You don't get HIV from kissing, blood or no blood.

You don't sound stupid at all. Stupid is when you don't take the trouble to find out about matters related to your health. After all, HIV is a matter of life and death.

Kissing is absolutely not a risk for HIV transmission. Theoretically HIV could be passed IF a woman is HIV+ and you give her oral while she is menstruating. That's "theoretical." In reality it just doesn't happen. The cervical fluids which could contain HIV are not easily accessible orally, so again the risk would be theoretical rather than actual.

If you haven't already read it I suggest you read the lesson on Transmission on this site. There's a link to it in the Welcome thread which opens this section.

Cheers,
