New chapter in my numbers
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:06:42 am »
I just got my latest set of numbers, CD4: 225, 17.9%, VL isn't back yet but considering CD4 has risen I will assume it is still UD!

PS: would've posted in my old thread but I couldn't find it.

JOYOUS day I'm over 200 for the first time since diagnosis!

Thanks everyone I've been on cloud 9 all day today which is either because of my numbers or because of the fact that a woman had her finger in my butt today.  My new doctor is a woman and I've finally gotten to third base with a woman, but I don't think this is quite what they mean normally.  Anyway she asked me if I'd had a digital rectal exam and naive me said not in a professional sense, so she mandated I get that AND a flu shot AND restart my hep A and B vaccinations AND another TB skin test.  I'm pretty sure she was just excited to poke me so many times.

Hope everyone's week goes as well as mine has started out!

PS: We also discussed swapping me to complera, she said she was not a fan of that choice since it had only been approved for treatment naive patients.  I was under the impression it had been expanded to include the treatment experienced as well.

I doubt that my doctor would be so timid with making that switch, but whatevs.

At the September ICAAC conference in Chicago, Complera was the focus of a late-breaker poster, which featured results from study 111, a study designed to assess whether patients can safely switch from Atripla to Complera. The data demonstrated that all 49 patients in the study maintained biologic suppression, 12 weeks after the switch to Complera.

To further define the profile for Complera, we have 2 Phase IIIb studies underway. The first is an open label comparison of Atripla to Complera, to assess the benefits of single tablet regimens, which because of ease, simplicity and convenience, may lead to higher compliance of better biologic outcomes. This 48-week study, is fully enrolled with 799 patients. The second study is designed to support switching from a protease inhibitor containing regimen to the single tablet regimen of Complera.

The idea of Wumpy up on anyone's ass is enough to make me hurl. Not to mention he would probably have to do it on a church pew with a rifle.

Congrats Trey!  A terrific milestone (not the finger thing -- I'm sure you've had thousands of those). ;D

Keep taking your meds and your numbers will continue to get better and better.

Maybe you should start riding Wumpy's ass about his diet......  he doesn't have anything to ride you about, so time for a switch (a little versatility, if you will).

Hugs,
M

Congrats, Trey!  I think they've totally stopped doing the TB skin tests here, in favor of the blood test.  But, we've got to be at the lab by a certain time--something about it needing to be immediately taken to the lab?

About the finger up the butt:  Every doc who has done it to me just rams it up there, as if they think I'm so loose that I can take it.  HIV doc rammed it.  Physician assistant rammed it.  And, colorectal docs rammed it.  Rammed and then twisting roughly.  I told them they need to tease it a little first.

Anyway, rooting for ya for even higher numbers.

Thanks again guys.  One more thing in my urine sample the doctor said they found THC and Benzo's (I've only smoked pot once and it was 7 years ago and as far as I know I've never taken a benzo).  The doc said the THC was probably the sustiva but the benzos...and then she looked at me expectantly as if to 'fess up.  I've never heard of sustiva providing a false positive for that only THC.

Trey, I found this right here at AIDSMEDS.  From this article, it said a study found 98% of those taking Atripla had false/positives for benzos on a widely used drug test.  By the way, is it common for HIV docs to run drug tests?  This surprised me.

Modified:

I should clarify--Those taking efavirenz found in Sustiva and Atripla.

Anyway, don't you think it's odd that she screened your urine for drugs?

Nope.  Not if he's on ADAP assistance.  You sign away for them to have the right to do this in Georgia.  They periodically screen for certain drugs.

Congrats on the milestone, Trey.

I dont know about anyone else but the only drug test I ever had to take was given me by my pain management doctors . They actually want to find the drug they are giving you in your system so as to determin its at therapeutic levels and that you are actually taking the drug and not selling it on the street .

They only do random test and like I said I am exempt for them .

This is even more puzzling.  Now that I see Tim's comment I recall that it is becoming fashionable for governments in the US to drug test anyone receiving public assistance.  But your doctor just took it upon herself to do this.  If it were my, I would ask why.

Yeah, I wouldn't want drug testing without my consent--especially if it isn't a requirement for assistance, since you're on commercial insurance.  I would at least mention the study about benzos, so my doc doesn't accuse (even with a look) someone else.

But, once again, congrats on the labs.

Yes, but only for a limited scope of drugs - like benzos and such.  For some reason, I don't think stimulant drugs like meth or X have made it on the list to check yet.  That seems kind of odd to me, I would imagine, those types play far more into infection rates than booze and downer pills.

But oh yes, I was first imformed directly of this a couple of years ago.  For whatever reason, one of my biggest issues with HIV is chronic fatigue.  This was especially true during my old Kaletra / Combivir years.  I had asked if there was something I could get to help combat this.  I was told rather plainly that if I had fatigue issues, perhaps I should first consider not swallowing so much Xanax.  Pretty much told in that tone even.  Thing is...I almost never take Xanax or Klonopins.  I only take those sporadically to combat recurrant bouts of insomnia...and even then, it's usually just like 1/2 a .5 mg pill.  Certainly not much, but I had some in my system during one of these random tests, and my requests were summarily dismissed.

Truth is, I don't think they will even offer anything like Concerta (I saw mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I think).  All they will offer is a once a month B-12 shot...which helps for about a day.  Something like Concerta or Vyvance would probably do me a world of good, but the prospects are slim.  I think I may try to bring it up with my doc on my next visit - even if I have to cough up for the scrip myself.  They may be willing to do that.  I dunno.  I've had testosterone checked and it was normal, though on the lower end.  You have to be absolutely under the range to get anything like that.

At my last FT job, I was having to take a 5 Hour Power, drink multiple cups of coffee and even a half ephedrine if I could score some to make it through tough 8-10 hours days like the "regular" folks.

Funny thing:  I used to be able to buy bottles of 100 ephedrine pills for about $5.  A half a pill a day with a cup of coffee would do it.  Now they make you sign for them - name, phone and address - in order to supposedly derail the process of making meth.  So now I have to pay about $20 for a dozen pills.

I can still score actual meth much cheaper than just the ephedrine pills.  One more victory for the "war on drugs".

Oh...and PS:  You have to sign a release to get treatment under ADAP.  This release allows them to test you for anything at anytime.  There are also all sorts of other stipulations.  The blunt reality is that, because I'm receiving treatment - and since they say it's in the name of "research purposes" - THEY actually own my body more than I do.  They have the rights to all that sort of stuff.

But hey...what're ya gonna do if you wanna stay alive?  So no?

(Hope this isn't too much of a highjack, Trey.  I think I kinda morphed the content of this thread with the "insomnia" thread of Phillicia's.)
