This may seem strange but we don't have liquor in grocery stores in TN. So that's another trip.

Queen, there isn't much I WON"T eat. Anything except mayonaise. I can't stand the stuff.

PA is the same with booze.  Really odd, even Virginia allows wine in the grocery stores.

What's wrong with mayonnaise ??? My American friends do not understand why I cover my French fries with ketchup and mayo, they find it absolutely disgusting.. i don't get it.. when you go to McDonald in Paris you always get mayo with the French Fries.. French fries without mayo is like aidsmeds.com without Peter Staley !

Milk maiden, I adore mayonnaise.  I also love aioli which I expect you do as well.  However, french fries with mayo is not done in the US, though I have had this combination in France and loved it.  American tarter sauce on fries is some kind of tasty too, but then really tarter sauce is a bit like a remoulade, n'est-ce pas?

Next time you are in NYC you must hop down to Houston Street around the F train/2nd Ave. subway station and between 1st and A on the south side of the street is a Belgian "Frites" shop where they do the proper two-step cooking process and have a full range of mayo based sauces for your enjoyment.

I always eat my French Fries with mayo. A lot of my friends think it's gross, too - until they try it. Then again, I spent the first 8 years of my life in Germany, so that may be where the taste came from.

Eons ago, when my friend took me to a French restaurant, he said the real way (the French way) to eat the fries was white the proper white sauce, so I gave it a try and I liked it a lot!

Ok, then you can be my taster when I experiment with recipes off of Food Network. Am not crazy for mayo either unless it is potato salad. Now how you feeling about some chitlin? Since you live in Tn, I'm sure you have had some. Anyone tried chitlins fried? I got to try that one day. I also make some banging fried shrimp with asparagus, yummy. I don't do beans, can't stand them. And about the fries w/mayo....yuck but I do eat vinegar on my fries sometimes or potato chips mixed with ketchup and hot sauce. Loves spicy food.

Beer - has most of the nutrients you need
Cream Cheese Frosting
Teddy Grhams (for dipping in the frosting)
Pretzels
Laffy Taffy
Starbursts (Tropical flavor is the best)
Ranch Dressing (fries taste better when dipped in this)
Swiss Cheese

Ok, I have made myself starving now, I need to go get some food....

How about everything you need for Matty\'s recommended eats, a placenta caserole?

Actually, Banana liquour, Hagen Daz, brown sugar, butter and plantains. This is a kick-ass dessert!  Fry the plantains with butter and brown sugar, eat a la mode with  Vanilla Hagen Daz and Banana Liquor. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oooooooooo Queen.. You watch the food network and actually cook their recipes? I just watch and drool. I'll try your shrimp with asparagus any time!

Vinegar on your fries? You've lived in the UK? I miss the vinegar potato chips that were so common when I was living in London :( What about bangers & mash then ???  Give me those and I'll be yours all night !  :D :D :D

Dan, that is the biggest chore that I have, going to the store and getting stuff. I never know what to get and I've never been able to cook for one person. I was always told don't go to the store if you're hungry or you end up buying junk food. Which I found to be true. I'm also a poor planner of making out a weeks long food plan. I just go to the store everyday and pick up what I need. I found out long ago it's cheaper for me to eat out than to fix a dinner. If we had a buffet here, I would probably go everyday. I do go to one in Wilmington a couple of times a week and yes I get my monies worth when I go.  :D

Rod I feel your pain. It's impossible to cook for one.  When I go to a buffet I usually only eat one or two small plates. So I really don't get my $ worth there.

Milkie, no I'm not getting ready for a large dinner. this is just a fun thread. I was kind of hoping for some "silly responses" if you know what I mean...

I need to pull myself away from the computer. I have an appointment with my new General Practiner in 30 minutes.

I'm going to go to the local "Italian Market" today.  One of the great pluses about the location of my apartment is that I'm a comfortable 7 block stroll from there.  The Italian Market here is a small vestigial 3-block section of food shops where they put their wares out on the sidewalk under large awnings.  There are ample butcher shops (one even just for pork!), fish/seafood mongers, cheese shops, fruit vendors etc.  As long as I don't go on the weekends when it's flooded with tourists it's enjoyable.

Philly is right....the Italian Market is shopping like its been done for thousands of years......I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I first discovered the cheese and spice shops. They have big barrels of all kinds of olives and huge rounds of every cheese imaginable.

Did you see that queen weighing the bananas?

Anyway, I ran over there and it was so damn hot I didn't buy anything except what I went specifically to purchase, which was this Nicaraguan whole bean coffee that's I've taken to (and am brewing RIGHT NOW).  It's incredibly good stuff.

Awesome....I so relate to your excitement!!!!!
I was like a kid in the candy store when I first moved to the bay area.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, or are planning a trip here, visit the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market! About 45% of the farms that sell at the FPFM are certified organic.  The Saturday farmers' market now operates year-round from 8 am to 2 pm, and is host to over 120 vendors over the course of the year.

Is the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market near the Powell Hotel?

yes not far. It is at the embarcadero on the water front.  It is the best thing to come out of the Loma Prieta quake.  In 1989, the Loma Prieta Earthquake caused extensive damage to the Embarcadero Freeway,  providing the decision to tear it down in 1991. The Ferry Building and the central waterfront areonce again visible and it is a great place to shop.  It just a the bottom of Market.
