Say what?
« on: December 12, 2006, 12:08:53 pm »
My friend of 30+ years, Greg, called me yesterday to say he had received a Christmas card from this girl we all used to run around with back in the 80's.  She is now a 'born again' Penecostal...but that's a whole 'nuther story.   In her card, she wrote "Dear Greg, I was so sorry to hear that Alan died this year.   I know it is hard on you losing a dear friend.   Hope you are able to have a nice Christmas.".

There was a time when that would have upset me, but I really got a good laugh out of it.    I had actually seen this girl a few weeks ago, out shopping, but didn't recognize her at first because she had gotten so huge.

Maybe I should send her a card that says "Merry Christmas; I'm not dead, but you're big as the broad side of a barn"......   no that would be ugly wouldn't it?
 ;)

AlanB, did I miss something? It seemed like a nice note. Putting aside her radical religious leanings. I think I understand, though. And yes, look onward and forget it if it bugs you. Revenge only works in the movies (they are always right before the titles so the bad guy can't respond ...)

Now, don't let that heart rust, Tin Man!  (Still...it might be fun to send her a Christmas card: 'Season's Greetings from the grave!'  hee hee hee!)

Dear Alan,

I think it was Mark Twain who said, "the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Looks like you get the last laugh.

Alan,

OMG!   :D

It would be fascinating to find out where she got this news.

Don't send her a card, don't let anyone let her know you haven't gone to the ever after, instead do this:

The next time you see her out shopping, sneak up behind her and say, in a soft willow like voice:

"Yoo Hoo, shopper lady, I've come to bring you news from the ever after, Slim Fast is now on sale over on Aisle 16."

O.K. I know that's wrong, but I couldn't resist.   ;)

Maybe she thought she had eaten you?

Perhaps she feared that you got caught in her gravitational pull and got burned up trying to pull away?

...just speculation.

Great idea... sort of a combination Halloween / Christmas card in one!   ;)

You should send a Christmas card and write "From the ghost of Christmas past.....I'm watching.  Merry Christmas!" ;D

Oh Alan - Glad you had a good LOL about it ... The last 2 posts spawned this: Send a card, a Jenny Craig coupon and inside the card write "Greetings from the Ghost of Christmas Past - I can see you, but then again, who can't?!"

Know what, Rod?  I think they stopped making those candies round about the mid-80's.  Go figure!  Good idea, though.

I'm with Marco on your being the Spirit of Christmas past, back to show her her errors in life. :)  Sadly, I have a female cousin who also found the Lord and having peeked into one card years ago, I toss them from the mail before I get singed now.  Win

OMG...I remember eating those things (AYDS candies) when I was about ten or eleven...they were sort of chewy and fudge-like...it all makes sense to me now...

And for the card:  "Happy Holidays and See You Soon!"  -from all of us in Hell ;D

OMG... I had completely forgotten about Ayds diet plan. My mom used to do that. I remember eating a piece because I thought it was candy and it tasted gross.

What a laugh over an old memory!  Ayds diet candy became a marketing disaster in the earlyl 1980's... I had forgotten about them.

In order to not hijack the thread, Alan just remember "living well is the best revenge."  You are now living well and apparently she is not!

Hi Alan...Don't sweat it one second...About 7 or 8 years ago some old friends of mine went to a high school reunion where we went to in the Bronx...it seems I was listed as being deceased but as you can clearly see rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated...Still it was kind of an odd feeling- a bit hurtful but also somewhat humorous as if to say HAH- I'm still here and tough shit on you...I didn't even bother to contact them to correct their error, I figure the whole damned place really should have been fire bombed long ago anyhow!!!  High school- YECH ;D

Hello Alan,

Well, I was never thought of as being deceased !! Back in 2003, a few people said I looked like a walking dead person. In fact, back in that time, a fellow co-worker of mine had a severe heart attack, and later went on disability, and left our employment. I had found out from one employee, later on, that some of the employees were taking bets, on who was going to die first. Me or him.

We are still both very much alive !! ;)

Well, it did give me a good chuckle.   I'm not dead, but am feeling quite "stiff" these days....seems I have developed quite a case of arthritis in the knees, shoulders, elbows....thank God it is not affecting my hands.   I just take my Motrin and keep moving (slowly)...... :D

Hugs,

Alan

PS - there've been lots of rumors during the past 20 years about my 'death', and I showed up at a Christmas party in B'ham in 2001 and several there said "We thought you had died back in the 90's".....   So it is not a new phenomenon for me.

My brothers wife (Denise)  is a cousin to a girl (Vicki), I knew in school.  Their family is from Alabama and had a family reunion a couple of years back.  After the pictures came back from the developer, Denise handed me one... She asked if I knew this woman.  She was 4.5 ft tall and 4.5 ft round, placing 2 large bags of groceries on a picnic table.  I said, "Of course that is Vicki, preparing to have a little snack.

Vicki and Denise have fathers who were identical twins.  They had each been in an accident.  One lost his right arm and the other lost his left arm.  When I saw the photo of the two brothers sitting together on a sofa, I saw 4 legs, two heads and two arms and could not comment.  Someone has to put the FUN in dysFUNctional, I guess that someone is me.  Have the best day
