Want to move..pls help?
« on: January 28, 2009, 12:36:45 pm »
Its been 1 year since I've been + and I don't see my life going anywhere. I always knew in my head that I stand a better chance for a longer (and perhaps happier) life if I moved to a place where I wouldn't have to worry about health care or insurance. I currently reside in a developing country where the drugs are cheap but the stigma really bad. I was considering options to move to a country where I would hopefully lead a better life  :-\ If anyone can come up with suggestions or help me with this..I would love to hear from you guys  ???

btw I'm a creative (gay) young (sigh) media guy...

Mguy -- welcome to our forums!

Sounds like this kind of move would be hard without a job lined-up in whatever country you moved to.  Plus, you'd have to check HIV immigration restrictions before traveling.  Do you have a country in mind?

Well I think brazil doesn't have strict laws against HIV.
Another option is the UK - although I don't think you can immigrate to the UK, you can get medical care if need be if you're living in the UK for 12 months or are employed by a UK company...

I'm unfamiliar with HIV immigration issues in either country.  Anyone else know how things work in the UK and/or Brazil?

Hmm very big life changing proposition but as the other posters say, it sounds complicated to pull off. Since your English is perfect and your post is intelligent and you are in Media, I would guess you have the Internet search skills to start really researching the opportunities and restrictions in some countries. Even old fashioned calls to the embassies would clarify matters.

I think if you had a job with a multinational or an NGO might facilitate matters, because if you moved with that job to the "developed" world, it might be easier to get established.

I know a few positive guys from developing countries who made it to European citizenship through marriage to Europeans, by the way. But how are you going to meet the men to make that possible if you aren't in Europe?

Dilemmas

Just as an aside, if you health is pretty stable right now, I think the challenge is your career, and you should really concentrate on that, and moving it to the developed world, and worry about the HIV stuff as an important side issue, not the primary concern.

I don't know how you feel about Italy, but I have an American friend that went there and was received into their system and I  believe he either paid very little or nothing.  I will email him if you are interested.  I have heard, just heard not read or varifide, that Canada is open to foreign aid if you actually make a move to their country.  They have problems helping people that just come there for medical assistance, but if you actually move there they apparantly will accept anyone and take care of you.  I'm not sure though.  It would take some research.  I guess if it were me I would make a list of the top ten countries I would desire to live in and just start to do research.  You might even put a new post here with a subject heading being specific for the country that you are wishing to move to, like;

I am moving to Russia, anyone know of foreign aid there?    ;)

Okay, maybe not russia, but it is a lovely place.  Beautiful palaces for sure and great artwork.

Good luck and let me know PM me to get my attention, to write my friend if you think Italy would be a place you might consider.  Ciao.

I don't think it would be a good idea to relocate during this global ressession, unless you have a job offer already in the mix. Just my opinion.

I dont know if the US is an option for you... But my state has a program for folks with HIV... If you make less than 2127 per month... you get free medical care.... The threshold is much lower if you dont have HIV...
