Has anyone seen the new Showtime show "Dexter" about a fairly handsome and smart forensics expert in the field of gathering blood from crime scenes who happens to be a morally minded serial killer of serial killers?  It's pretty good...The Sopranos wasn't as good last season as previous years.  I like 24, it's well done, and also The Office, Scrubs and another fairly new show that's well done with Alec Baldwin, Tin Fey and Tracy Morgan called 30 Rock.  I'm the only person I know who watches and enjoy's Monk.

When I had my roommate Les (now deceased) we used to watch alot of British shows such as Masterpiece Theaters and Mystery Theater on public television which were very well done indeed...The "I Claudius" series was terrific, particulary when Caligula (played very aptly by John Hurt) was in power.  Others such as "Are you being served?" were cute.

I used to like Cheers, Wings, Frasier, Seinfeld, Taxi, M.A.S.H, Sex and the City, the X-Files and was also compelled to see Queer as Folk though it was poorly written, and growing up (I'm a dinosaur) we used to watch Ed Sullivan, 60 Minutes, Carol Burnett and Red Skeleton...My mom and grandmother used to watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights when I was too young to go out and somehow while sitting there bored to tears I knew that somewhere out there were living people.  :D

P.S...I also wanted to mention one of the great comedies ever I think- SCTV...I would roll on the floor with laughter from that show. It's never on my cable anymore.

Jody  :)

All these gay boys and no one's mentioned "The Golden Girls"?  :o Sins of omission count as well as sins comission.  ;D (For the record: I enjoyed it, but never understood the gay obsession with it.)
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

I am so with Jody on the Monk and the Lawrence Welk thing!  I remember having to sit through that boring ass show as a kid myself!  My nephew also gave me some episodes of 'Dexter' for Christmas, so I plan to see what that's all about soon.

Another old fave:  Kids In The Hall

(Scott Thompson as Buddy, or Cathy with a 'C' and Kathy with a 'K'...and Tanya the Temp!)

I would also have to add my current Saturday morning kid's show that I watch with coffee:  Veggie Tales !

It is hilarious!  (Yes, I still watch cartoons and stuff.)

As I snobbishly flaunt in as many faces as possible as often as possible, I am not au courant regarding television programs because I use my TV for watching DVDs and VHS tapes.  I don't have cable and broadcast reception stinks (maybe it has something to do with the 60 foot steel electrical pole on the right corner sidewalk) so I live without.  I can't see I'm missing much.

One of my favorite shows of all time is "Green Acres."    Absurdism meets the sitcom.  The ongoing jokes with Lisa and Ebb always confounding poor old Oliver.  Hot cakes.  Arnold (and Fred and Doris) Ziffel.  Mr. Haney.  Ralph and Alf.  The closet doors.

Yet another Blockbuster rental prompted by AIDSmeds.

Thank god my mother detested Lawrence Welk and called him a Nazi.  We all grew up changing the channel before the show even came on.

SCTV!!  If reruns of SCTV were available I might watch TV again.

Speaking of Lawrence, I remembered the video from another thread:

Then I went to Napster and bought the song.

 ;D

I have a couple favorite TV shows. I particularly liked these shows. because they stimulate the mind...

"Three's Company" and of course the very mind stimulating  "The Simple Life", with those incredible wondrous minds of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton...  :P

Just Kidding !!............................ :P :P :P :P

I like my comedy shows ( Comedy Channel) I like National Geographic, "Orange County Choppers"...Even though I don't know crap about motorcycles. I enjoy watching these guys fabricate and put the choppers together...( and the son is Hot) And all those home improvement shows. Or anything that can hopefully keep my interests for more than 3 minutes  !!

Thanks Jeffey, I watch that clip from time to time and giggle helplessly. I've sent it all my friends who've ever expressed an interest in writing.

Forgot to mention Frasier. Two chattering allusion-throwing psychiatrists-- what's not to like?

I was weirdly obsessed with Dawson's Creek at one point. I used to run around the apartment proclaiming to my roommates that it was "the summit of human achievement."

I hardly ever actually watch tv anymore but I'd have to say:

'Friends'

Easy watching. Never fails to make me laugh out loud and/or cry as and when needed. I have all the videos at home and when I knew I was coming to the uk for a couple of months/indefinitely I just had to treat myself to the dvd boxset to have here at my folks 'for a fix'. Am so glad I did too as its something I'm enjoying sharing with my folks!
