Isentress Again
« on: September 27, 2012, 11:31:02 am »
I am thinking about switching from a PI to Isentress and am having trouble drawing conclusions about the side effects from the very long prior Isentress post.I have 2  specific questions:
Does it substantially affect the central nervous system like sustiva and thereby cause dizziness and sleeplessness?
Or does it primarily affect the gi like the protease inhibitors?

I find from my experience that I can adjust to the gi side effects but the cns side effects like sustiva drive me nuts. It makes me feel drunk, dizzy and hyper.

Frank,
For me neither. I can't tell I have taken any meds except when I have labs done.

I have never known Isentress to cause any of the CNS side effects associated with Sustiva.

Likewise, I have never had and also have never had anyone report any Gi issues from it.

It is a very benign med when it comes to side effects.

HUGS,

Insomnia with Isentress is known on Isentress, but perhaps less than Atripla. However it only effects a small amount of patients. 8% v. 13% on sustiva.

That said depression (from general HIV diagnosis) can cause insomnia so it's hard to separate out if it's that or the med in many cases.

I started Truvada and Isentress 3 days ago.  On my first day, I felt a "floating" sensation (like when you're starting to get drunk) about 10 minutes after I took my first dose.  But since then, I haven't felt a thing.  And I've slept fine each night.  I've got my fingers crossed it stays like this, because so far, starting drug therapy for the first time has turned out to be no big deal at all!

All of these posts are really encouraging. I had a difficult time with sustiva due to the dizzineess and the PIs definitely have some strong gi effects as well as some fatique, headaches etc.  I take viread and epivir with my PI and they don't bother me much at all. Thanks!!!

Just adding another good experience on the pile. I'm approaching two years on Isentress/Truvada.

I have not had either.  And I did have CNS with sustiva and I did have g.i. with PI.
